The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 160

As soon as class ended, Jiang Chan went straight to the homeroom teacher and efficiently applied for day commuting. Living in the dorm was not an option. If she had to share a room with a group of boys, she herself would not be able to get past that mental hurdle.

Day commuting was much better. Not only could she avoid Song Miao, she could also have her own independent space. What could be better than that?

Holding the exit pass given by the homeroom teacher, Jiang Chan wondered whether she should buy a small electric scooter after school. The original owner’s home was about thirty minutes away from school. Having a scooter would make things more convenient.

She touched the bank card in her pocket and decided to take care of it at lunchtime. Little did she know that behind her, Song Miao was staring at her in shock.

What had she just seen? Jiang Yuhui had actually applied for day commuting. This was completely different from the previous life. In her last life, Jiang Yuhui had always lived on campus. Why had so many changes happened this time?

If Jiang Yuhui really commuted, her contact with him would become even less. They would not be able to eat together, nor walk around the track after evening self study. More importantly, if Jiang Yuhui did not live on campus, she would truly have to tighten her belt at school in the future.

Looking up at the blue sky, Song Miao suddenly staggered. Was it possible that everything she hoped for would fail? No, that could not be. It should not be like this. She shook her head vigorously, suppressing the panic in her heart, and called out to Jiang Chan.

“Jiang Yuhui, you applied for day commuting? It wastes a lot of time. Living on campus saves time. You can focus more on studying.”

Jiang Chan turned around. Thanks to the original owner’s height, she was looking down at Song Miao at this moment. For someone as short as Jiang Chan used to be, this felt unexpectedly satisfying. Her thin lips parted slightly. “No need. It is quieter at home. As for studying, I do not think my grades depend on sacrificing those few dozen minutes from commuting.”

After speaking, Jiang Chan ignored Song Miao’s stunned expression and walked back to the classroom. It was the first day of registration, and there were no classes in the afternoon. After organizing her books, Jiang Chan slung her backpack over her shoulder and left campus.

Thirty minutes later, she rode her small electric scooter home. Jiang Yuhui’s parents ran a business that did fairly well. It was not a huge enterprise, but at least they lived without worries about food and clothing.

Dihua Garden was the residential area where the Jiang family lived, filled with standalone villas. The Jiang house was located on the outer ring. The further inward one went, the more expensive the properties became. Naturally, the privacy was also better.

Jiang Chan parked the black scooter. A steady young man stood in the living room and smiled at her.

“Nice ride. When you come of age, I will get you something better.”

This was the original owner’s older brother, Jiang Yuzhi. He had just graduated from university and was starting his own business. He was working in food delivery platforms and was usually very busy.

Jiang Chan had not expected to meet the original owner’s family so quickly, especially the older brother. She felt slightly flustered. She had never interacted with a man at such close range before.

“I will remember that. No need for a vehicle. When the time comes, just get me the best computer on the market.”

Though inwardly nervous, Jiang Chan’s expression remained calm. Following Jiang Yuzhi into the living room, she heard him say, “Dad and Mom are on a business trip. They will not be back for a month. My work is also busy during this period. Will you be alright staying home alone?”

Jiang Yuzhi had only found out that morning about their parents’ business trip, so he hurried back from work to check on his younger brother. His own work was overwhelming, but he was worried his younger brother would not adapt to being alone.

Jiang Chan relaxed. “It is fine. Boys are not that troublesome. Go focus on your work. I will be fine on my own.”

Jiang Yuzhi wanted to say more, but his phone rang. After a brief conversation, he gave Jiang Chan a few instructions and hurried out again. That was simply how startup companies operated.

Jiang Chan had also started a business before and understood him. In fact, she quite liked this arrangement. At least she would not risk exposing herself in front of Jiang’s father and mother.

Carrying her backpack upstairs, Jiang Chan lay down on the bed. Not even two seconds later, she sprang up as if shocked. Even though she was using the original owner’s body, she still was not used to using someone else’s things.

She grabbed her wallet and rode the scooter to the nearest shopping mall. Beneath the mall was a supermarket. She stopped in to buy some groceries as well. The housekeeper had taken leave a few days ago. Since she was alone at home, she did not want to eat out.

By the time she returned and finished organizing, doing laundry, and cooking, it was already six in the evening. After a busy afternoon, Jiang Yuzhi finally came back. As soon as he entered, he sniffed the air. “What is that smell? It is so fragrant.”

When he saw Jiang Chan busy in the kitchen, he fell silent. “What are you, a snail maiden? You have never cooked before.”

Jiang Chan paused while ladling soup. “Just follow the recipe. It is not difficult.”

Jiang Yuzhi, who could not even boil dumplings properly, was speechless.

Dinner left Jiang Yuzhi thoroughly satisfied. Throughout the meal, he showered her with praise, completely unlike the steady and proper image he usually presented.

Jiang Chan pushed her bowl aside. “You wash the dishes. I am going upstairs to read.”

Jiang Yuzhi immediately stood up. He might not be able to cook, but washing dishes was no problem.

Twenty minutes later, Jiang Yuzhi stood in Jiang Chan’s room holding a glass of milk.

“What did you do? Why did you buy so many clothes?” He looked at the bed. The old clothes had been folded and set aside. Most of what remained were newly bought clothes in light colors.

Jiang Chan paused while folding. “The old clothes were too childish. I am in high school now. It is time to change styles.”

Jiang Yuzhi shrugged and did not question whether it was true. Placing the milk on the desk, he took out a bank card. “Take this. You must have spent quite a bit this afternoon. You even bought a scooter.”

Jiang Chan did not refuse. She knew that the original owner and Jiang Yuzhi had a good relationship. Jiang Yuzhi had often given him money before. It was just that the original owner did not usually spend much.

After reminding her of a few things, Jiang Yuzhi left the room. He still had a pile of work to handle. Rubbing his temples, he went to the study to deal with company matters.

Jiang Chan placed the original owner’s clothes in one side of the wardrobe and neatly arranged her newly bought clothes on the other side. Although the original owner’s clothes were clean, she simply could not get past that mental hurdle.

She casually picked up two of her new clothes and went into the bathroom. Twenty minutes later, Jiang Chan walked out with unsteady steps. Completing tasks had its benefits, but she felt as though her sense of restraint was slipping further and further.

After washing up, Jiang Chan sat at the desk and continued reading computer books. The longer she read, the more she began to grasp their nuances.
