Qi Yan smiled bitterly and touched her belly. If she didn’t give birth to this child, she might never get another chance to be a mother. The doctor said she was born with a thin uterine wall, and it was already an accident that she got pregnant.
So now, no matter what, she had to hold on to Jiang Yu. After all, the child was his. As long as she had the child, would Jiang Yu really not take responsibility for the rest of her life?
“Alright, I’ll do whatever President Jiang says.” Pushing aside her thoughts, Qi Yan finally made up her mind.
Jiang Chan nodded in satisfaction. “Don’t worry. My reason for helping you is very simple. I’ve gotten hold of something on Qin Miao. As long as you don’t make trouble for me, I can definitely get you into the position of Mrs. Jiang.”
Putting Qi Yan aside for now, Jiang Chan’s entrance exam results were in. Top-performing students get privileges, especially when it comes to checking scores. The night before the official results were released, Liang Chen had already received a call from the Education Bureau.
Jiang Chan scored incredibly well this time. The total score was 750, and she got a perfect score. That score was already leagues above everyone else and made her the provincial top scorer.
When the title of Provincial Top Scorer was announced, Liang Chen couldn’t stop smiling. Lin Qiao looked at the overly excited Liang Chen and rubbed his brow helplessly. Was this just how artistic people acted?
Now Liang Chen didn’t find Lin Qiao’s serious face so annoying. She grabbed his hand and shook it wildly. “Little Chan really made us proud. The Education Bureau called. She got a perfect score and she’s the provincial top scorer!”
The news shocked the entire Lin family. Old Master Lin Yuanshan burst out laughing. The provincial top scorer. That was a real honor for the Lin family. Jiang Chan curled her lips slightly. The perfect score was within her expectations.
Seeing the whole family smiling happily, Jiang Chan also rarely curved her lips into a smile. It wasn’t that she couldn’t smile, but that there were too few moments in her life worth smiling about. That made her smile all the more rare.
Old Master Lin Yuanshan waved his hand. “This is a great occasion for the Lin family. We have to throw a proper banquet and let everyone know this glory belongs to us.”
Just as Jiang Chan was about to object, Liang Chen quickly cut in. “Little Chan, you’re not allowed to refuse. Back when you skipped a grade, your grandpa wanted to throw a banquet and you said no. You told him to wait until the entrance exam. Now you’re the provincial top scorer. Surely you won’t deny your grandpa a bit of joy?”
Jiang Chan swallowed the words that were at the tip of her tongue and tugged at the corner of her mouth. “As long as Grandpa’s happy.”
Compared to the joy at the Lin household, Jiang Lianyu couldn’t feel good at all. As someone fairly popular in her class, she was very active in the class group chat.
Today was the day the entrance exam results came out. Jiang Lianyu had been sitting in front of her computer early. When she saw her score, 712, she smiled in satisfaction. It was a bit better than usual thanks to the physical education and speaking portions.
Of course, she wanted to show off. She put on a calm front but had already gone into the group chat to brag. The group was already lively with messages.
Class One was a top class, and the scores were all high. Jiang Lianyu had been quietly lurking in the chat, and so far no one had posted a higher score than hers. She was getting smug.
Just as she was about to send her message, the group suddenly exploded. It started with a message from Mo Xingyu.
“Oh my god, I just heard from Old Wang. Sister Chan is really something. She actually got a perfect score. A perfect score!”
“Is that real? Sister Chan’s that intense?”
“Of course it’s real. You all know Old Wang, right? I’m in his office right now helping him tally the scores. I saw it with my own eyes.”
“A perfect score? Sister Chan’s headed for the heavens?”
“Right? Old Wang’s grin is about to twist his whole face.”
“The teachers from the other classes are all jealous seeing how happy he is.”
Mo Xingyu even snuck in a photo of Old Wang beaming with pride, confirming Jiang Chan’s score. A perfect score. That hadn’t happened in this city in years. And she skipped a grade, no less.
“Isn’t that score enough to make her the city’s top scorer?” someone asked in the group.
Mo Xingyu replied quickly. “Not just the city top scorer. She’s the provincial top scorer!”
“Wow, Sister Chan is on another level!”
The group chat flooded with dozens of messages in an instant. Jiang Lianyu looked at the message she had edited and knew that if she sent it now, she would just humiliate herself.
She angrily deleted the message draft, her fingers pressing hard. Jiang Chan again. Why was it always her?
She felt like Jiang Chan was the obstacle in her life, blocking her every time. Fuming, she tossed her phone aside. So what if she got a perfect score? Was that really worth all the praise?
What was so great about Jiang Chan anyway? Cold and standoffish, not the least bit warm, yet somehow all the classmates still liked her?
Maybe Jiang Chan didn’t seem easy to get close to, but she never hoarded knowledge. In the eyes of the Class One students, that was better than anything. Top students always respected other top students.
There was a time when grades had been Jiang Lianyu’s strongest weapon. With her outstanding performance, she had crushed Jiang Chan and earned Jiang Yu’s favor.
Now Jiang Chan had risen out of nowhere and stepped all over her. Facing Jiang Chan, Jiang Lianyu felt powerless, like no matter what she did, she could never win.
Just as Jiang Lianyu was spiraling, Qin Miao came in with a dark expression. Jiang Yu had been acting strangely lately. As someone who had been his mistress for over ten years, Qin Miao was no stranger to scheming.
If something had been done, there would always be traces. Qin Miao had discovered Qi Yan’s existence.
After learning about Qi Yan, Qin Miao felt like the sky was falling. She had worked so hard to outlast Lin Wan, only for Jiang Yu to go fooling around again. And with someone over ten years younger than him.
Hadn’t Jiang Yu always said she was the one he loved most? Was his love so cheap?
Thinking of the photo of Qi Yan’s big belly, Qin Miao’s eyes were filled with venom. No wonder Jiang Yu hadn’t been coming home lately. So he already knew he had another child.
Despite her many flaws, Qin Miao truly loved Jiang Lianyu from the bottom of her heart. Seeing Jiang Lianyu sulking, she toned down her expression.
“What’s wrong? Who upset you?” She sat down beside Jiang Lianyu and set her bag aside.
“Isn’t it Jiang Chan? I just checked the exam results. She got a perfect score. She’s the provincial top scorer!”
Jiang Lianyu gritted her teeth. If only that score were hers. And it had to be Jiang Chan, the one she couldn’t stand, who got it. No wonder she felt so suffocated.
