After noon, the villagers finished handling the corpses and looked worriedly at the slowly descending sun. Tang Guo let out a light scoff. So they were capable of fear as well.
“They’re here, they’re here. The ghost hunting Taoist has arrived.” Someone shouted from outside the village. Soon Tang Guo saw three people walk in.
One was a young man in a Taoist robe. One was a girl under twenty, Ning Xiangsi. The last was Sanwazi from the village, his face full of excitement. “This little Taoist master is very capable. He’ll definitely catch those filthy things.”
The villagers’ eyes instinctively fell on Ning Xiangsi first. Their undisguised gazes made her uncomfortable. She pressed her lips together. “Don’t get any ideas. We’re only here to stop ghosts from harming people.”
When they learned that half the village had died the previous night, their expressions grew grave.
Especially Ning Xiangsi. Hadn’t the village chief and the traffickers already been arrested? Why would she still not let these people go? She hated these people as well, but she hated ghosts even more.
Because of her special constitution, she had attracted ghosts since childhood.
If she had not later encountered a master, Fang Yunchi’s teacher, she might have been devoured by ghosts long ago.
So she held prejudice against ghosts. Even knowing the villagers were not good people, she hated them and wanted to send them to prison. But the ghost here, in her view, also needed to be dealt with, especially the vicious ghost who had killed people freely the night before.
“Brother Fang, that ghost saved me before. If you catch her, don’t hurt her. Send her to a temple so she can awaken. As for the other evil spirits, don’t spare them. When I was in danger, she was the only one who helped me. Consider it repaying her kindness. I don’t want to owe anyone. She seemed clear minded and different from those resentful spirits.”
If she had to watch Fang Yunchi destroy Tang Guo, she would still feel uneasy. After all, Tang Guo had saved her life, even if she disliked ghosts.
“Alright.”
Fang Yunchi agreed. He did not kill every ghost he encountered. Many times, when they captured ghosts, they preferred to send them to temples for reform.
Of course, evil spirits were excluded. When they encountered malevolent or fierce ghosts, they always eliminated them.
In the past, he had gone out with his master. This time, his master was in seclusion. Since he was familiar with Ning Xiangsi and had heard that the ghost here did not seem very powerful, he brought his equipment and came.
Tang Guo heard all of this and did not care. The little ghosts would no longer appear. For Fang Yunchi to eliminate ghosts, there had to be ghosts to eliminate.
Of course, she would still appear.
That midnight, Fang Yunchi, Ning Xiangsi, and all the villagers gathered in one house.
Originally, the village had nearly a hundred people. Now there were fewer than a hundred left.
Thinking of the events of the previous night, many people still looked frightened.
“You don’t need to be afraid. With me here, that fierce ghost won’t harm you,” Fang Yunchi said.
At that moment, the door was pushed open. Fang Yunchi gripped his peach wood sword, his expression stern as he stared at the doorway.
When Tang Guo walked in, he was stunned.
Tang Guo wore a short athletic skirt and white sneakers. These were the clothes the original owner had worn when she died.
No one had burned new clothes for her, so she could only keep wearing these.
“Little Taoist.” Tang Guo smiled. “I advise you to leave this place and stop interfering in the affairs of these people. Those who died deserved it. They have more than one life on their hands.”
“So that is your reason for killing them?” Fang Yunchi frowned.
