Song Miao slumped weakly in her chair. After a long while, she finally began to cry.
She knew that in this life, she and Jiang Yuhui were destined to be impossible. Not only because of what happened last night, but more because Jiang Yuhui might also have been reborn.
She had lived with him for several years. She understood his temperament. He could not tolerate even a grain of sand in his eyes. If Jiang Yuhui had not returned, if she tried harder, there might still have been a sliver of hope.
But now that he had seemingly returned, Song Miao knew the last bit of longing she held should be let go.
Jiang Chan was right. Making a mistake did not guarantee forgiveness.
After wiping away her tears and fixing her appearance, she prepared to leave. Just then, Qin Fen pushed the door open.
When Jiang Chan left early the previous night, he had already felt something was wrong. That morning, when she came to the teahouse, he had quietly followed her.
After Jiang Chan entered one room, Qin Fen sat openly in the adjacent one and listened. The soundproofing was poor. He heard every word clearly.
Now, seeing Jiang Chan leave, he had a few things to say to Song Miao.
He sat across from her casually. Spotting the lab report on the table, he picked it up swiftly.
After reading it, he let out a mocking laugh and tossed it back in front of her. “You’re still the same. You haven’t changed at all. Always thinking others owe you something. And your methods have only gotten dirtier.”
Song Miao glared at him. At his words, a dreadful thought surfaced. Her voice trembled. “What do you mean?”
Qin Fen sneered. “What do I mean? You still don’t understand? How did Jiang Yuhui wrong you? Was ruining his life once not enough? You want to ruin this one too?”
Song Miao screamed, “What right do you have to say that? The way my life turned out was because of you. What right do you have to stand on moral high ground and accuse me?”
“Listen to yourself,” Qin Fen said coldly. “Do you even have morals? I admit I wronged you. But when we broke up, you agreed. Why else did you accept the breakup fee so readily?”
He gave a harsh laugh. “Admit it. You’re a gold digger. You just wanted a life without worries. That itself is not unforgivable. But you shouldn’t have dragged an innocent person into it. And you went so far afterward.”
Song Miao retorted, “Do you think I wanted that? I wanted to abort the child. But the doctor said if I lost it, I might never have another. What was I supposed to do?”
“I was so young. If I couldn’t have children in the future, who would want me?”
“So you found Jiang Yuhui, the honest one?” Qin Fen shot back.
She fell silent.
Qin Fen stood, eyes full of disgust. “I was blind to think you were hardworking and ambitious. My parents compensated you afterward. You lived your entire life under the title of Madam Qin, enjoying wealth and comfort. What more did you want? You’re insatiable.”
“What did Jiang Yuhui ever do to you? You deceived him, made him take responsibility, then even encouraged my parents to target his family’s company. If that’s not repaying kindness with betrayal, what is?”
Song Miao gasped. “What do you mean? Didn’t you die in a car accident? How do you know all this?”
Qin Fen bent down slightly, looking at her. “I know far more than you think. I’m warning you. Don’t hover around Jiang Yuhui again. Otherwise, you won’t like the consequences.”
His smile was cruel. Seeing her avoid his gaze, he straightened.
“I was truly blind.”
With that, he strode out of the teahouse.
Song Miao collapsed completely in her chair. Jiang Chan and Qin Fen’s confrontation had shattered her final defenses. They both knew her true face now. She had no face left to approach Jiang Chan again.
And their warning frightened her.
She knew very well the power of the Qin family. Qin Fen was their only heir. If he wanted to deal with her, they would support him fully.
If he truly decided to act, she would have no way out.
Though she had been reborn, she had no real skills to rely on. Her later years had been nothing but indulgence.
And if she continued to entangle herself with Jiang Chan, that lab report would destroy her. If Jiang Chan pursued legal action, she would not survive it.
After sorting through her thoughts, Song Miao steadied herself and left the teahouse, eyes red.
Qin Fen walked out feeling refreshed after venting his anger. As he reached the parking lot, he ran into Jiang Chan, who stood leaning against her car, playing with her keys, long legs crossed.
She lifted her chin slightly. “What are you doing here?”
She had not noticed him earlier. But his car was parked right beside hers. Even a blind person would have seen it.
Qin Fen stiffened. “Just passing by.”
Under her knowing gaze, his voice faded. “Fine. I thought something was off with you. So I followed to see what was going on.”
Jiang Chan sighed inwardly. Qin Fen was not without merit. At least he was loyal to his friends.
She patted his shoulder. “Let’s go. It’s too hot out here.”
He darted forward and opened the passenger door. “Give me a ride?”
She crossed her arms. “How did you get here this morning? Your car is right there.”
“I called a driver. I’ll have him come move it later.”
She ran a hand through her hair, helpless.
Ten minutes later, the driver arrived. Jiang Chan drove the limp Qin Fen back to the neighborhood.
He had a car yet still did not dare drive it himself. If she had gone somewhere farther today, he probably would have followed on his little electric scooter.
In her view, it was purely psychological. And one day, he would have to overcome it.
