“Bride, what is your name?”
He waited about ten seconds, but no response appeared above the bride character’s head. Unable to hold back, he asked again anxiously, “Tell me.”
Xia Yi sat beside the computer, completely puzzled by Feng Yu’s excitement and urgency. It was as if the bride were extremely important to him. Just as Xia Yi was thinking this must be how seriously Feng Yu took the game, a sudden realization flashed through her mind.
She stared at the bride character, eyes widening, her heart filled with shock and panic. For Feng Yu to care this much and to so seriously confirm a game character’s name… could this bride be the original owner of this body, Tang Guo?
If that were true…
Xia Yi did not dare continue the thought. Judging by Feng Yu’s reaction, he would definitely bring Tang Guo back. And then would she return to the computer and become that pitiful brainwave again?
If it had been during the first few days, Xia Yi might not have hesitated. After all, the body did not belong to her. Returning it would have been natural.
But she had possessed this body for over a month now. She had grown used to it. She enjoyed everything that came with it. Even the original owner’s hobbies overlapped with hers.
Despite being tormented by the game characters in recent days, she still loved gaming, loved streaming, and loved being watched by millions of fans online while she played.
Xia Yi bit her lip and carefully tugged at Feng Yu’s sleeve. He did not turn around. She asked softly, “Ah Yu, is there something wrong with this bride?”
Feng Yu did not respond. He only stared at the top of the bride’s head, waiting for the words he wanted to appear.
“Ah Yu, could she be Tang Guo’s brainwave?” Xia Yi pressed on, her voice trembling with fear. She clutched his sleeve tightly. “Are you going to bring her back and send me back into the computer?”
This time, Feng Yu finally responded. There was a trace of gentleness on his face. “Of course. Xia Yi, you’re occupying her body. It should be returned to Xiao Guo.”
“Don’t worry. When she comes back, I won’t abandon you. I’ll find a suitable body for you.”
This time, he would not repeat his previous decision. He would not choose an innocent person just to give Xia Yi a body by taking someone else’s.
Losing Xiao Guo had taught him many lessons. His ruthless taking had only brought endless pain to the one who lost everything.
He had never expected that the person who would suffer the most would be himself.
If time could be reversed, he would never deceive and hurt Xiao Guo the same way again. Even if he desperately wanted Xia Yi to come out, he would have chosen another method. He would never have selected an innocent person.
Bitterness welled up in Feng Yu’s heart. He understood his selfishness now, but the price of that realization had been far too great.
Xia Yi felt her heart turn cold. Looking at the pain on Feng Yu’s face, she finally realized something she had not dared to admit. Her voice trembled, sharp and unsteady.
“Ah Yu… you like her?”
“You like her, don’t you?” She grabbed his arm and shook him, demanding again and again, “Ah Yu, you like her. You like that girl named Tang Guo, don’t you?”
“I understand now. You want to bring her back not just because she’s your friend. The real reason is that you like her.”
Feng Yu’s expression hardened. He removed Xia Yi’s hand and looked at her seriously.
“Yes. I like her.”
The kind of like that had hollowed him out when he lost her, as if half his heart were gone.
“Then what about me?” Xia Yi’s voice nearly broke. “What am I?”
