The gears in everyone’s heads immediately started turning. The commercial plaza in the west of the city, what an incredible opportunity. So many companies were fighting for a collaboration with Lin Corporation, and now, it had fallen right into their laps.
At the thought of the steady stream of revenue once the project was completed, everyone’s eyes lit up with the glow of money.
Mr. Zhang was the first to speak. “Sure enough, heroes emerge while they’re young. Chairman Jiang, you are impressive!”
Jiang Chan responded modestly, “Not at all, it’s thanks to my uncle and brother’s guidance.”
Sitting there, Jiang Yu felt as though he had taken a direct hit to the heart. Jiang Chan’s words were an open insult to him as her biological father. Watching everyone fawn over Jiang Chan, Jiang Yu got up, ready to storm out.
Noticing Jiang Yu was about to leave, Jiang Chan said unhurriedly, “Make sure to clean out the chairman’s office later. Anything that should be given to Chairman Jiang, go ahead and hand it over.”
Jiang Yu stumbled in his steps as he was walking out. He turned around to glare viciously at Jiang Chan before storming off in a fury.
Jiang Chan remained perfectly composed, completely indifferent to whatever her so-called father might think. She turned to Manager Gao and gave a few instructions before leaving the meeting room herself.
Kicking someone when they’re down had always been her favorite thing to do. The more satisfying it was, the more accomplished she felt in completing her mission.
“President Jiang, please wait.” As Jiang Chan reached the company entrance, she called out to Jiang Yu. This was a busy area with people coming and going, whatever happened here would spread quickly.
Despite Jiang Yu’s hurried strides, Jiang Chan still managed to chase after him in her small high heels. Under the pressure of countless watchful eyes, Jiang Yu had no choice but to stop.
He looked at Jiang Chan standing two steps behind him and forced a stiff smile. “Chairman Jiang, I really don’t deserve that title anymore. I’m no longer President Jiang. I just hope the company thrives under your leadership.”
Jiang Chan looked at him and said loudly, “No need to be so polite. Once President Jiang, always President Jiang. How could I possibly compare to you?”
She stepped closer, just enough to ensure that Jiang Yu could hear her words clearly.
“Originally, I wasn’t planning to make a move on you this soon, but your daughter just doesn’t know her place. I already told your family to stay out of my sight, but unfortunately, you people just don’t listen.”
“Since that’s the case, I’ll just have to teach you all a lesson you won’t forget.” Jiang Chan’s tone was soft and calm, but Jiang Yu’s eyes widened, his teeth grinding audibly.
“What do you mean by that?”
“You still don’t get what I mean?” Jiang Chan shook her head. “Who has the patience to play out some act of fatherly love and filial piety with you? Ever since I moved out, I never planned on going back. If you really want to know why, go ask your precious daughter.”
Jiang Chan took a step back, wary of Jiang Yu lashing out in desperation. “Remember this, at the end of the day, the reason you lost your position is because you happened to have such a good daughter. Keep this in mind, if your daughter makes my life miserable, then as her father, don’t expect to have it easy either!”
Jiang Yu was frustrated. “I really did raise a good daughter. You truly are my daughter, ruthless and cunning in every way!”
Jiang Chan ignored Jiang Yu’s words completely. “Safe travels, President Jiang. I won’t see you off.”
Watching Jiang Yu’s unsteady steps, Jiang Chan’s eyes remained cold. In her past life, the original owner hadn’t ended up in such a miserable state solely because of Qin Miao and her daughter’s schemes. Jiang Yu’s favoritism and indifference had been just as much to blame.
If he had shown even the slightest bit of compassion, Qin Miao and her daughter wouldn’t have dared to go to such extremes. As an outsider, Jiang Chan could see this all too clearly.
After striking a blow to Jiang Yu, Jiang Chan felt refreshed. Although the weight on her shoulders had grown significantly heavier, being able to see Jiang Yu and his family suffer made it all worthwhile.
The only lingering concern was the 35% of company shares still in Jiang Yu’s hands. She had no intention of working herself to the bone just to line his family’s pockets. It looked like she’d have to find a way to take those shares from him.
Jiang Yu stormed home, his mind growing more unsettled the more he thought about it. Based on Jiang Chan’s words, had Jiang Lianyu said something to her?
With that thought in mind, he stepped on the gas, speeding toward Qin Miao’s place.
Lately, Jiang Yu had been too busy to visit Qin Miao’s place, spending most of his time at the company for both work and meals. As a result, he hadn’t seen much of Qin Miao and her children.
He also knew that Qin Miao and the others were still living in the house he had bought for them. After all, Jiang Chan was ruthless enough to kick them out of their previous home.
That morning, instead of doing her homework, Jiang Lianyu lounged on the couch watching TV. Feeling irritated, she couldn’t help but vent to Qin Miao.
“Mom, Jiang Chan is so annoying. Do you think she’s deliberately targeting me? Can you believe she skipped a grade and is now in the same class as me? I just know she’s up to no good.”
Qin Miao’s hand paused mid-stroke as she was shaping her eyebrows. “She’s in your class? Since when?”
Jiang Lianyu squeezed a throw pillow. “Since the start of the semester. The homeroom teacher really likes her.”
“Tell me everything about her, in as much detail as you can. I need to think this through carefully.” Qin Miao put away her makeup, a growing sense of unease creeping into her heart.
As Jiang Lianyu recounted everything, Qin Miao felt more and more like things were slipping out of her control. In fact, ever since Jiang Chan moved out, nothing had gone according to plan.
Suddenly, the door burst open with a loud bang, and Jiang Yu stood in the doorway, his face dark as thunder. Qin Miao hurried over with a flattering smile to fetch his slippers, but Jiang Yu ignored her completely.
He strode inside, planting himself heavily on the couch, his face dark with anger as he stared at Jiang Lianyu. The moment Jiang Yu had appeared at the door, Jiang Lianyu had already shrunk into the sofa like a frightened quail, staring at him without even blinking.
Seeing Jiang Yu staring at Jiang Lianyu, Qin Miao quickly walked over in her slippers to smooth things over. “You rarely come home, and now that you’re here, you’re scowling at Lianyu. If there’s something to say, say it properly.”
“Say it properly? How am I supposed to do that? I’ve been stripped of my position as chairman. How do you expect me to stay calm?”
Jiang Yu grabbed a throw pillow beside him and flung it across the room. It struck a vase by the TV stand, shattering it with a crisp sound.
Jiang Lianyu immediately shrank back, her mind buzzing. She suddenly recalled what Jiang Chan had told her yesterday. That the lesson wasn’t harsh enough and that she would understand soon enough.
Could it be that Jiang Yu losing his position as chairman was Jiang Chan’s doing? But how was that possible? She was just a girl younger than herself!
