The next morning, Jiang Chan dressed in a sharp and professional outfit. Although her face still looked childish, her imposing aura made it clear she wasn’t someone to be underestimated.
Lin Yuanshan glanced at her and asked, “What’s all this about? Why the aggressive look?”
He thought calling it aggressive might even be too polite. Jiang Chan looked as if she were sharpening her knives, ready to slaughter pigs and sheep. Whoever ended up crossing her path today was bound to have terrible luck.
The old man thought about it and figured out what Jiang Chan was planning. Without saying a word, he instructed Liang Chen to assign two more bodyguards to her. His support for her actions was obvious.
Since Jiang Chan had not yet reached the legal age of majority, any official matters required the consent of her legal guardian. Earlier in the summer, her guardianship had already been transferred from Jiang Yu to Lin Qiao.
Armed with Lin Qiao’s authorization, Jiang Chan marched into Jiang Yu’s company with a professional manager and a team of bodyguards in tow, making a grand entrance. It was fortunate that today was a school holiday, giving her the time to deal with Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu had been dealing with constant headaches lately. Ever since Jiang Chan had gone to live with the Lin family, his company’s performance had been in steady decline. He had just barely managed to send off the auditors, only for the company’s business to be significantly cannibalized by competitors.
On top of that, the 20 million yuan payout to Jiang Chan had left the company’s cash flow severely depleted. Now, even maintaining cash flow was becoming a struggle.
He had begged and pleaded with everyone he could, and after much effort, barely managed to stabilize the company. But the current state of the business couldn’t withstand even the slightest disturbance. However, just as he sat down at his desk, his secretary came in to inform him that a shareholders’ meeting had been called.
Jiang Yu froze in disbelief. Was a shareholders’ meeting something that could just be called on a whim? He was still the chairman! Were they treating him as if he were already dead?
Enraged, Jiang Yu stormed into the conference room, only to be greeted by the sight of Jiang Chan at the head of the table. A quick glance around the room revealed that several shareholders were absent.
Over the years, Jiang Yu’s company had indeed developed quite well, undergoing numerous rounds of shareholder financing in the process. However, the direct consequence of this was that Jiang Yu’s shares had been significantly diluted.
Currently, he only held 35% of the company’s shares. It was solely because he was the largest shareholder that he had been able to securely maintain his position as chairman.
However, too many people were eyeing his position greedily, and Jiang Yu couldn’t afford to let his guard down. If he was not careful, then the chair beneath him could very well be occupied by someone else.
Now, just the sight of Jiang Chan made Jiang Yu’s head hurt. Over the past few months, he had gained nothing in his dealings with the Lin family. And now, the culprit behind it all was standing right in front of him. How could he possibly stay calm?
“Jiang Chan, what is the meaning of this? I’m not even dead yet, and you’re already trying to seize power and usurp my position?” Jiang Yu’s eyes were red, his anger practically making him lose control.
Seeing Jiang Chan seated at the head of the table, completely unfazed, Jiang Yu deeply regretted ever bringing her into this world. This bastard was clearly here just to drive him mad!
Jiang Chan set her pen down and said, “Alright, since everyone’s here, let’s get straight to the point.”
Without sparing a glance at Jiang Yu, who stood by the door, Jiang Chan let her gaze sweep slowly across the room. “According to regulations, the shareholder with the largest stake naturally assumes the position of chairman. Currently, I hold 38% of the company’s shares. Doesn’t that mean the position of chairman should now be mine?”
Jiang Yu was stunned. “38%? Where did you get so many shares?”
The elite-looking man standing behind Jiang Chan stepped forward. “Naturally, it was through acquiring the shares held by the minor shareholders. President Jiang, do you have any objections to that?”
“I really have to thank you, President Jiang, for that 20 million you handed over earlier. Without it, how else would I have been able to acquire the shares from the minor shareholders?”
Jiang Chan’s remark left Jiang Yu gasping for air, utterly speechless. The shareholders who were in the know exchanged sympathetic glances toward Jiang Yu. What a tragedy—this was truly pitiful!
Everyone was well aware of where that 20 million had come from. It was the money Jiang Yu had used to buy out the dividends Lin Wan had earned from her investments in the company over the years.
Who could have guessed that Jiang Chan would turn right around and use that money to purchase shares in the company? If this wasn’t a textbook case of shooting yourself in the foot, what was? But back then, with the lawyers breathing down his neck, even if Jiang Yu didn’t want to hand over the money, he had no choice but to pay up.
That said, 20 million alone wasn’t enough. Jiang Chan had also borrowed a large sum from Lin Jinyu to scrape together the funds needed to acquire the shares. Now, though, she was practically penniless.
Watching Jiang Chan completely crush Jiang Yu in this one-sided battle, the shareholders exchanged looks. It was clear to them that this “little shareholder Jiang” wasn’t someone to mess with.
Jiang Yu glared at Jiang Chan, his face twitching with rage. Then he turned to the shareholders and said, “Are you seriously okay with letting a kid like her take over the company? She’s not even of legal age yet. What kind of ability could she possibly have?”
A shareholder with the surname Zhang, who’d always been at odds with Jiang Yu, stepped forward with a smile. “President Jiang, I have to disagree with you there. Young Director Jiang has been learning directly under Lin Jinyu, the general manager of the Lin Group, for quite some time now. She’s been personally trained by him.”
“And let’s not forget, President Jiang, under your leadership, the company hasn’t exactly thrived. Just look at the losses we suffered during the last incident. How much money did we shareholders lose?”
“If young Miss Jiang takes a position on the board, our collaborations with Lin Corporation will increase significantly, and the company’s market value will skyrocket.”
This is the most crucial point. The shareholders weren’t fools. They all knew the company was in its current state because Jiang Yu had offended Lin Group. If Jiang Yu couldn’t deliver results, why not switch to someone who could?
For the shareholders, profits were the most important thing. It didn’t matter who sat in the chairperson’s seat as long as they made money and received dividends. Jiang Yu couldn’t deliver on either front, so how could he expect their support?
Watching this group of people turn to Jiang Chan, Jiang Yu knew his time was up. Still, he knew when to yield and when to stand tall. “Fine, I agree with the shareholders’ decision. I’d like to see just what kind of company Chairman Jiang can build.”
Jiang Chan remained composed as she introduced her next step. “Since I’m not yet of legal age, this is Manager Gao. He’ll serve as my proxy for now. If you have any issues, feel free to approach him directly.”
Watching Jiang Yu’s face darken, Jiang Chan couldn’t help but feel even more pleased. “Oh, and one more thing. This afternoon, I need two people to head over to Lin Group to meet with General Manager Lin Jinyu. Lin Group is planning to collaborate with our company to develop a commercial plaza in the west of the city.”
The conference room erupted in chatter. No one had expected good news to come this quickly. Jiang Chan had just forced Jiang Yu to step down, and she was already bringing in such a major project.
