The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 96

Being able to bring glory to her family and make her elders proud gave Jiang Chan an immense sense of accomplishment. When Liang Chen mentioned Jiang Chan’s exam results at home, Old Master Lin Yuanshan burst into hearty laughter.

In truth, if Jiang Chan hadn’t previously completed three years of middle school in her past life, coupled with her intense study sessions over the summer, she wouldn’t have achieved such excellent results. This once again highlighted the reality that effort is required to reap rewards.

Thinking back to how happy the Lin family had been that day, a faint smile appeared in Jiang Chan’s eyes. Suddenly, a few of the girls pulled the conversation back to the topic at hand. “Sister Chan, you’ve skipped a grade, why the rush?”

Li Yan nudged Jiang Chan’s shoulder, grinning mischievously. “Sister Chan, are you planning to personally deal with that cuckoo occupying the magpie’s nest, Jiang Lianyu?”

Jiang Chan’s lips curved slightly, but she said nothing. The girls instantly understood and couldn’t help shedding a few symbolic tears of sympathy for Jiang Lianyu. At the same time, they secretly felt a surge of glee in their hearts. There would definitely be drama to watch in the future.

When it was time for Jiang Chan to report to her new class, Liang Chen accompanied her. After all, Jiang Chan was now the pride of the Lin family.

When they arrived at the office, Old Wang, who had previously maintained a stern expression, immediately broke into a wide smile. He was as gentle and warm as a spring breeze when addressing Jiang Chan, leaving the other students registering for the new semester blinking in astonishment.

Old Wang was not only the homeroom teacher for Class One but also the director of the middle school’s academic affairs. No one had ever seen him treat a student with such kindness before. His unexpectedly gentle demeanor made their eyes practically pop out of their sockets.

As a result, Jiang Chan’s unfamiliar face drew quite a few glances. To everyone, she just looked like a delicate little girl, nothing particularly special.

In middle school, classes were reassigned every year, and the process was even stricter for the third year. Class One, which Old Wang oversaw, was particularly elite, with an exceptionally high elimination rate.

Monthly exams were held, and only the top fifty students in the grade could remain in this class. If anyone’s rank fell below the top fifty, they would have no choice but to transfer to another class.

Jiang Chan, as a newcomer parachuted into the class, had passed the special grade-skipping exam but hadn’t taken the second-year final exams. As such, she didn’t have a standing rank.

Never underestimate the gossip abilities of students, especially in a school where entertainment options were scarce. Any small movement was enough to catch everyone’s attention.

When Jiang Chan followed Old Wang into the classroom, the originally noisy room fell silent. All eyes turned toward Jiang Chan behind Old Wang, eager to see what made this transfer student special.

Among the students, there were naturally mixed reactions. Some were happy, while others were worried. The student ranked 50th in the class was especially nervous. If this new student turned out to have better grades, wouldn’t they have to leave Class One after the next monthly exam?

Jiang Lianyu was sitting in her seat, and the moment she saw Jiang Chan’s familiar face, her vision darkened. Why was she haunting her like a lingering ghost? Wasn’t she supposed to be in the second year? Why was she here in the third year?

Could it be that Jiang Chan had come specifically for her? The more Jiang Lianyu thought about it, the more unsettled she felt. She had already given in so much, why couldn’t Jiang Chan leave her alone?

Jiang Lianyu’s eyes immediately turned red, her tears on the verge of falling, making her look as if she had just been bullied. The girl sitting next to her politely asked, “Are you okay?”

In truth, the girl was already internally cursing, Why am I stuck sitting next to someone who looks like such a white lotus? She felt entirely uneasy, especially as her seatmate sat there acting like someone had done her some great injustice while looking toward the transfer student at the front of the class

Old Wang glanced over, his eyes pausing briefly on Jiang Lianyu before casually looking away as if nothing had happened.

He clapped his hands: “Everyone, quiet down. Today we have a new student joining us, Jiang Chan, who has skipped ahead from the first year. She’s younger than most of you, so please take good care of her.”

Old Wang glanced around the room. Most seats were already filled, except for one by the window in the back row. He pointed to the seat and gestured for Jiang Chan to sit there.

After Jiang Chan took her seat, Old Wang called on a few tall boys to go to the academic office to fetch books. Meanwhile, Jiang Chan rested her chin on one hand, casually observing the various expressions and behaviors of her new classmates.

If you count the years from her first mission, it had been over fifty years since Jiang Chan last stepped into a classroom. Looking around now, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia.

“Are you the girl who embarrassed Jiang Lianyu before the summer vacation?” A girl in the seat ahead of her suddenly turned around, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Jiang Chan.

Jiang Chan glanced at her. The girl had a round, baby face that seemed somewhat familiar.

She ran it through her mind and suddenly remembered who this girl was. Back when she had gone to Jiang Lianyu’s classroom to embarrass her in person, this girl had been sitting right behind Jiang Lianyu, hadn’t she?

She had even taken the opportunity to throw a few barbs at Jiang Lianyu, hadn’t she? Jiang Chan’s eyes lit up instantly. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, after all. What made it even more interesting was that this girl used to be in the same class as Jiang Lianyu.

“I’m Jiang Chan. I didn’t embarrass Jiang Lianyu, she was the one who helped herself to what belonged to my mother without asking. Taking back what’s rightfully mine, how could that be considered embarrassing her?”

A gleam of light flashed in Jiang Chan’s eyes, though her expression remained perfectly innocent.

The baby-faced girl turned her entire body around and leaned over Jiang Chan’s desk. “You’re amazing! Let me tell you, I’ve hated Jiang Lianyu for ages. She always relies on that teary-eyed act of hers to manipulate the boys in class into siding with her.”

“You have no idea. The girls in our class used to hate her so much. I still don’t understand what everyone sees in her. I was even complaining about how unlucky I was to end up in the same class as her.”

Jiang Chan simply listened to the girl ramble on. The girl paid no mind to Jiang Chan’s lack of response and continued speaking happily to herself.

“Now that you’re here, and seeing Jiang Lianyu’s expression, I just know there’s going to be some great drama ahead!” The girl spoke animatedly, her face lighting up with excitement. Jiang Chan couldn’t help but see a hint of Li Yan in her. If she introduced the two, they’d probably have plenty to talk about.

“Oh, after all that, I still haven’t told you my name! I’m Mo Xingyu. Xingyu, as in ‘Starry Wishes.’ Sister Chan, please look out for me from now on!”

Mo Xingyu didn’t care that Jiang Chan might be younger than her and she readily assumed the role of a loyal follower.

Looking at her round, chubby cheeks, Jiang Chan gave them a light pinch. “The homeroom teacher is here.”

Mo Xingyu immediately turned back around.
