To show off that his family was no longer poor, Jiang Siyu spared no effort in flaunting their wealth, often exaggerating and singing Jiang Yu’s praises to an absurd degree.
Qin Miao sighed and recounted everything Jiang Chan had done today. Upon hearing it, Jiang Siyu, who had always seen Jiang Chan as a thorn in his side, instantly exploded in anger.
He didn’t care about the rights or wrongs between the adults, nor did he stop to consider why Jiang Chan had done what she did. He only knew that her actions had robbed him of his comfortable life.
He could no longer live in the big house and had to go back to the small one. He could no longer invite his classmates over because the small house wasn’t spacious enough. And he could no longer bask in the envious gazes of his classmates.
Jiang Siyu’s hatred was deep, and naturally, Qin Miao shared his resentment. However, she had no way to approach Jiang Chan now. If Jiang Chan were still under her control, she could have used some schemes to ruin her.
But now that Jiang Chan had flown beyond her reach, no matter how many schemes she had, she couldn’t use them. Especially now that Jiang Yu’s company was in trouble, she had no money or resources at her disposal. Naturally, she could do nothing but swallow her anger.
The three of them ate dinner in silence. That night, Jiang Yu didn’t return home at all. He was overwhelmed by the chaos at his company.
After half a day of watching coldly from the sidelines, Jiang Yu knew that this time things wouldn’t end peacefully. In short, someone was clearly targeting him, and he didn’t need to think hard to figure out who was behind it.
He never expected the Lin family to be this ruthless. First, they came for his shares, then they suppressed his business, and finally, they even brought in the auditing bureau. One move after another left Jiang Yu barely able to keep up.
Qin Miao had called him countless times, but he didn’t answer any of them. On any other day, he might have had the patience to humor her, but with the company in such a dire situation, how could he have the time to engage in sweet talk?
Switching off her phone screen, Qin Miao stood on the balcony, her eyes dark and brooding. From the looks of it, Jiang Yu’s troubles weren’t minor. She tapped her fingers against the railing, standing there for a long time before finally returning to her room.
It was still not yet 8 a.m. on Saturday morning when Shen Yu and the others arrived at the Lin residence right on time. Jiang Chan and the girls were studying in the study, while Lin Yuanshan entertained himself in the living room with a chessboard.
The old man was in a very good mood. After learning last night about what Lin Qiao and Lin Jinyu had done, he had eaten an extra bowl of rice at dinner. In his opinion, nothing could be better than bringing down that ungrateful Jiang Yu.
With his granddaughter now living under his care, it felt as though his daughter were still with him. This brought him considerable comfort. Unfortunately, his good mood was soon interrupted by an uninvited guest.
Over the past few days, Jiang Yu had become increasingly restless. While his company had been doing decently over the years, compared to the Lin Group’s massive empire, it was like a small fry before a giant.
The auditing bureau had been stationed at his company every day, and in just two or three days, numerous issues had been uncovered in the books. On top of that, there were complaints from clients, and some even wanted to return goods. Jiang Yu was completely overwhelmed.
He hadn’t gone to Qin Miao’s home these past few days, staying at the company instead. Naturally, he had no idea that Jiang Chan had kicked Qin Miao and the others out and even changed the locks.
Jiang Yu was well aware that his company stood no chance against the Lin Group. Being someone who could adapt when necessary, he decided he couldn’t sit still any longer. Carrying numerous gift bags, he made his way to Lin Yuanshan’s home, hoping that for the sake of his past relationship with Lin Wan, the old man would throw him and his company a lifeline.
Jiang Chan happened to be coming downstairs to get some water when she saw Jiang Yu entering with his bags. She acted as though she hadn’t seen him, greeted Lin Yuanshan, and headed to the kitchen.
Jiang Yu’s face alternated between shades of white and red. This damn girl! She knew how much trouble the company was in, yet she showed no concern for him at all! Thinking about how his current predicament was entirely caused by this damn girl, Jiang Yu’s gaze toward Jiang Chan turned even more hostile.
Suddenly, a crisp sound broke the silence as the old man heavily placed a chess piece on the board. “Mr. Jiang, are you here to let us admire your displeased expression?”
Jiang Yu snapped out of his thoughts and hurriedly forced a smile. “Of course not, Dad. It’s just that I haven’t seen Jiang Chan in a few days. When we meet, she doesn’t even greet me. Does she not acknowledge me as her father anymore?”
Jiang Chan held her cup, her dark, bright eyes fixed on Jiang Yu. “My dad died a long time ago. Back when he lied his way into marriage, kept a mistress, and fathered illegitimate children.”
Jiang Yu was both furious and anxious. How could Jiang Chan say such things in front of the old man? Wasn’t this making his already bad impression of him even worse?
“You child, what are you saying this for now? They are still your sister and brother. How can you talk about them like that?”
Jiang Chan: “My mother only gave birth to me. I really don’t have any random so-called sisters or brothers. You know, Jiang Lianyu and Jiang Siyu are now called illegitimate children, but in the past, they were just concubine-born. If this were ancient times, Qin Miao would just be a concubine. Our identities and statuses are fundamentally unequal. What right does the daughter or son of a mistress have to call themselves my siblings?”
Shen Yu and the others, leaning over the second-floor railing, covered their mouths in shock. Oh my god, Sister Chan’s combat power is way too strong! She just tore into her biological father without even batting an eye. Watching this had their blood boiling with excitement.
“You!” Jiang Yu’s hand was trembling with rage, his finger quivering uncontrollably. He was so angry that he wished he could go over and teach Jiang Chan a lesson.
Jiang Chan, however, calmly sat down beside Lin Yuanshan, holding her cup. She even poured another cup of tea for him, completely unfazed.
“I remember that ever since you married Lin Wan, you haven’t set foot here even once. So what brings you here today to see this old man?”
Lin Yuanshan blew on the tea leaves floating in his cup, fully aware of Jiang Yu’s intentions but still feigning ignorance. Even if Jiang Yu had come seeking help, Lin Yuanshan had no intention of offering any. After all, was his daughter Lin Wan’s years of suffering supposed to be for nothing?
Jiang Yu pushed the gifts in his hands forward. “Dad, I’m here today to ask for your help. My company has been facing so many issues lately. Could you lend me a hand and help me solve them?”
Lin Yuanshan responded leisurely, “Xiao Jiang, let’s not beat around the bush. I know you’ve harbored resentment toward me all these years. Now that my daughter Lin Wan has passed away, let’s just treat it as though we have no relationship. To be honest, I’m not worthy of being called ‘Dad’ by you.”
“Dad, you can’t say that. Wanwan was your daughter. Since I married her, you’ll always be my one and only father-in-law.”
Jiang Chan raised her hand. “You’ve got more than one father-in-law now. Didn’t you already get your marriage certificate with Qin Miao? Isn’t her father your father-in-law now? He’s not your only one anymore.”
“Besides, don’t put on such a deep and emotional act. It’s disgusting to watch.”
Jiang Chan showed no mercy.
