The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 92

Jiang Chan sighed helplessly. “What ‘third generation’ or not? I’m just an ordinary student. Those are the glories of our elders. If you want something, you still have to work hard for it yourself.”

Liang Chen, who had come out to get a glass of water, overheard her words. She nodded in satisfaction and quietly returned to her studio to continue her work.

After delivering snacks and fruit, Aunt Zhang went back to the kitchen. Before leaving, she asked the girls if there was anything they didn’t eat so she could prepare lunch accordingly.

It had been over a decade since the Lin family home had been this lively. Lin Jinyu was naturally indifferent and, as a boy, rarely brought friends over to play. Seeing this group of young girls chatting and laughing, Aunt Zhang felt as though the house had suddenly become filled with life and energy.

Zhao Bingyue picked up a piece of red bean cake. She was a tall girl who gave off an unapproachable and cold demeanor.

“It’s only the first year of middle school, and we already have this much homework. When we get to the second or third year, won’t it be completely overwhelming?”

Shen Yu wailed in distress. She didn’t like studying at all, and the only reason she got into this school was because her mother had paid a hefty sum to secure her a spot. Sometimes, money really does come in handy, and Shen Yu had essentially been forced in.

Among the group, Li Yan, Zhao Bingyue, and Song Yifei had decent grades, at least they weren’t at the bottom. The original owner and Shen Yu, however, were frequently found near the very bottom of the rankings.

“With the time you’ve spent whining, you could’ve finished a few questions by now,” Song Yifei said, glancing at Shen Yu’s pitiful expression. She scribbled answers as if possessed by a muse.

Shen Yu looked embarrassed. After seeing everyone else working so diligently, she reluctantly ate two more snacks before starting her homework. But the homework was like a stranger she barely recognized, it didn’t seem to recognize her either. Shen Yu stared blankly at the math paper, completely at a loss.

The study quickly fell into silence. Two hours later, Jiang Chan finally finished all her weekend homework. She stretched her sore arms, flexed her wrists, and noticed Shen Yu lying on the desk, lost in thought.

She glanced at Shen Yu’s nearly blank paper and rubbed her temples. “You don’t know how to do it?”

Shen Yu nodded weakly. Watching her friends work so diligently while she couldn’t solve a single question made even the usually carefree Shen Yu feel a bit anxious.

Jiang Chan, who was seated beside Shen Yu, decided to patiently explain each question to her, one by one. In truth, Shen Yu wasn’t stupid, she just didn’t pay attention in class, so when faced with a test paper, she was completely clueless.

At some point, Li Yan came over and marveled, “Sister Chan, you’re amazing at explaining things. I think you’re even better than our math teacher! But seriously, Sister Chan, if you’re so good at math, why are your grades always at the bottom?”

The corner of Jiang Chan’s mouth twitched. It wasn’t her grades that were bad, it was the original owner’s. But she had to keep up the facade, so she replied with a straight face, “Getting low scores on purpose takes skill too, you know.”

Song Yifei added, “When Sister Chan first joined the class, her grades were actually really good.”

The group fell into silence.

The morning passed with everyone working on test papers. By afternoon, the four friends had taken it upon themselves to tutor Shen Yu in every subject. As the weakest link in their five-person group, Shen Yu was trembling with fear.

She knew everyone was doing this for her own good, so even if she was unwilling to listen, she quietly sat at the desk. Truth be told, the more she listened, the more interesting it seemed, especially when she managed to solve a few problems herself.

Seeing Shen Yu so energized, Jiang Chan and the others exchanged knowing glances. They didn’t dare tell her that much of what they were teaching her was elementary school material. It didn’t matter, as long as she was motivated, that was good enough.

By the end of the afternoon study session, Jiang Chan and her friends finally let the exhausted Shen Yu off the hook. At that moment, Liang Chen knocked on the door and said, “Little Chan, take a break. My assistant just delivered a batch of new designs. Want to come over and try them out for me?”

The mention of new clothes immediately lit up the girls’ eyes. Even the usually aloof Zhao Bingyue was intrigued. At their age, they were naturally drawn to beautiful outfits. Who wouldn’t want to check them out?

It was Jiang Chan’s first time entering Liang Chen’s workshop. As soon as she stepped in, she raised her eyebrows in surprise. The workshop was nearly as large as the living room at home, with a massive workbench in the center and plastic mannequins standing nearby.

Alongside the large floor-to-ceiling windows were two rows of racks filled with various garments. There were skirts, pants, and more, with a wide variety of styles.

The five girls lined up, and Liang Chen inspected them carefully. When she saw Zhao Bingyue, her eyes lit up. This girl, with her long limbs, looked like a natural clothes rack, though she was a bit too thin at the moment.

Liang Chen pulled Zhao Bingyue aside and quickly selected outfits for everyone. For Zhao Bingyue, she chose a sleek pantsuit that accentuated her tall, slender figure.

Jiang Chan enviously glanced at Zhao Bingyue’s outfit, then looked at the dress in her own hands. Well, what could she do? The original owner of this body was still just a little shorty. Even if she wanted to wear those sharp, stylish clothes, she’d look no different from a kid playing dress-up in adult clothing, wouldn’t she?

The more Liang Chen looked, the more delighted she became. She grabbed the five girls and started taking photos. Being a fashion designer, Liang Chen had some photography skills, and the photos she took were stunning.

What surprised her most was Zhao Bingyue, whose presence in front of the camera was incredible. She had a natural poise and aura. In Liang Chen’s critical eyes, Zhao Bingyue was born to be a model.

By the time Shen Yu and the others headed home, each of them was carrying one or two bags. These were clothes Liang Chen had chosen for them based on their individual styles and temperaments. The delighted girls were all smiles, their joy practically radiating from their faces.

Half-dazed, they even agreed to come back the next day to study with Jiang Chan, and found themselves looking forward to it a little. But when the next day arrived, they were greeted with a jaw-dropping revelation.

While Jiang Chan was diligently working on completing her first task, Jiang Lianyu and Jiang Siyu felt as if they had fallen straight from heaven to hell. Due to his younger age, Jiang Siyu was still in the sixth grade of elementary school.

In recent months, it was always Jiang Yu who picked him up after school, and Jiang Yu’s luxury car greatly satisfied his vanity in front of his classmates. But today, as school let out, he saw Qin Miao waiting at the school gate.

Jiang Siyu frowned. “Why didn’t Dad come today?”

Qin Miao forced a smile. “Your father has something to deal with at the company. Let’s talk about it when we get home.”

As the road home grew more and more familiar, Jiang Siyu suddenly stopped in his tracks. “Don’t we have a big house now? Why are we going back to the old small one?”

Those words were like a knife stabbing straight into Qin Miao’s heart. She paused in her steps and looked at Jiang Siyu with dissatisfaction. “We’ve moved out of the big house. From now on, we’ll be living in the small house.”

“Why? Didn’t you say we’d live there from now on? We’ve barely stayed there for long! I even told my classmates to come over and hang out at our place on Sunday,” Jiang Siyu protested.
