“I heard the troublemaker was named Jiang Chan. Li Yan felt that the girl’s name sounded familiar. Isn’t their boss Jiang Chan? Plus, Jiang Chan didn’t show up for class yesterday, which made her suspicions even stronger.
Jiang Chan glanced at the gossiping girl. Thankfully, she was just gossipy and didn’t dress as flamboyantly as the others.
“That’s right, Jiang Lianyu is the daughter of the mistress of my biological father, and she’s a year older than me.”
“Fuck, that’s explosive!” Li Yan exclaimed. “She’s actually a year older than you? So she’s your half-sister?”
Jiang Chan turned a page of her book and shrugged nonchalantly. ‘Who knows? As long as she doesn’t jump in front of me, I can ignore her.’
Song Yifei adjusted her plain glasses. “By the way, Sister Chan, you were so domineering yesterday. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see it. Why didn’t you take us along? We could’ve helped back you up.”
“What would I bring you for? This is a family matter. I can handle her on my own,” Jiang Chan said calmly. Indeed, someone like Jiang Lianyu wasn’t even worth mentioning in her eyes.
Not to mention, Jiang Chan had the moral high ground. Dealing with Jiang Lianyu was more than enough for her. Her imposing words immediately won over the admiration of the four girls, who gazed at her with starry eyes.
‘Okay, go back to your seats. Class is about to start,’ Jiang Chan said as she packed her textbooks and sent the girls back to their seats.
Shen Yu, daring to speak up, asked, ‘Sister Chan, are you really planning to study hard?’
Jiang Chan paused for a moment. ‘Yes, my mother’s wish was for me to be a good student. I can’t let her down.’
Shen Yu curled her lips, thinking Jiang Chan’s resolve wouldn’t last more than three days. However, as the day went on, Shen Yu observed something surprising, Jiang Chan didn’t play on her phone during class, nor did she wander around after class. She stayed at her desk, reading and doing homework.
The group huddled together, and Shen Yu gestured toward Jiang Chan. “Is Sister Chan seriously planning to study hard and improve herself?”
Li Yan nodded thoughtfully. ‘It seems so. I think Sister Chan is serious this time.’
“That’s not a bad thing. A student’s main job is to study, right? Shouldn’t we work hard too? Otherwise, we might not be able to keep up with Sister Chan.”
Song Yifei, whose grades were average, was happy to see this change. Shen Yu and Li Yan, however, were at the bottom of the class and didn’t share her enthusiasm.
“Spare me, I don’t want to become a bookworm,” Shen Yu said, resting her head on the desk with a look of despair. If even their boss had turned over a new leaf and started studying hard, did that mean they, her followers, had to follow suit?
Jiang Chan wasn’t kidding when she said she’d accompany the girls to change their looks. They kept at it until nine o’clock, finally finishing the complete makeover for all four of them.
Looking at Shen Yu, Song Yifei, Li Yan, and Zhao Bingyue’s newly dyed black hair, Jiang Chan was finally satisfied.
“Isn’t this much better? Do you have any plans for tomorrow?”
Jiang Chan lifted her leg to walk out, and the four girls swarmed around her.
“Not at the moment. Sister Chan, what are you planning to do?” Song Yifei, the usual strategist of the group, was the first to speak. Somehow, she felt that Jiang Chan looked even more captivating after her makeover.
“Tomorrow’s a rest day. I plan to stay home and read. Why don’t you all come over? Studying together will be livelier.”
“Sure! I’ve never been to Sister Chan’s house before. This time, we’ve got to have a proper good time.”
“Absolutely!”
“…”
“…”
Listening to the girls’ chatter, Jiang Chan felt a little lighter at heart. So far, things were going well with her current task. For now, the most important focus was to improve her studies, while bringing these girls along with her.
In the original owner’s memories, these four girls were quite good-hearted. Although their style of dress was a bit unconventional, their character was solid. However, their lives didn’t turn out well later on. Since Jiang Chan was in a position to help them now, she decided to lend a hand as a way of expressing gratitude on behalf of the original owner.
“Alright then, I’ll talk to the driver tomorrow and have him pick you all up,” Jiang Chan said.
After dropping each of them off at their homes, Jiang Chan finally returned to the Lin family villa. She wasn’t planning to go back to Lin Wan’s old house anytime soon. She didn’t even need to think to know that Jiang Yu and his people were likely waiting for her there. Why would she deliver herself to their door?
Although it was the weekend, both Lin Jinyu and Lin Qiao still went to work as usual. Jiang Chan also woke up early, accompanying Grandpa Lin Yuanshan to the community for morning exercises.
The community had a track, and Jiang Chan ran several laps before finally stopping. She was gasping for air, her chest heaving violently. This body was truly weak. Just a few laps and she was already completely exhausted, her lungs burning.
Seeing Jiang Chan’s weak and dog-tired state, Grandpa Lin Yuanshan looked at her with obvious disdain, though his arm remained steady as he supported her. “Can you still walk? Look at you, like a dead dog. And look at that scrawny body of yours. From now on, you’ll be doing morning exercises every day.”
Jiang Chan felt helpless. She knew the old man had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Still, did he really have to compare her to a dead dog? She was still a blooming young girl, wasn’t she?
By eight in the morning, Shen Yu, Li Yan, Zhao Bingyue, and Song Yifei had all arrived at the Lin family villa. Standing in the lavish living room, the girls seemed a bit uneasy.
Except for Shen Yu, who managed to hold her composure, the others fidgeted restlessly. Lin Yuanshan glanced at the nervous girls and said, “Go study in the library. I won’t get in your way. Have lunch here, and I’ll have Lao Li send you home in the evening.”
Liang Chen, standing nearby, smiled warmly as her eyes swept over the girls. They were all vibrant and fresh-faced, each with their own unique charm. “I’ll have Aunt Zhang bring you some fruit and snacks later. This is the first time Xiao Chan has brought friends over, so don’t be shy. Make yourselves at home.”
The old man clasped his hands behind his back and went off to have tea with his old friends, while Liang Chen stayed in the villa’s studio sketching designs. She was a fashion designer with a modest degree of international fame.
Now, seeing these young girls, Liang Chen felt her inspiration continuously surging.
It wasn’t until they sat down in the library that Li Yan sighed in awe. “Sister Chan, you’ve been hiding a lot from us. Your grandfather is actually the former chairman of the Lin Group?”
Jiang Chan pulled out some test papers from her bag. “Lin Yuanshan is my grandfather. Back when my mom wanted to marry Jiang Yu, my grandfather opposed it. So, we hadn’t been in contact for many years. I only moved here a few days ago.”
“That’s still pretty awesome, okay? Did you see how Jiang Lianyu acts? She just relies on Jiang Yu having a bit of money, and her tail’s practically sticking up to the sky at school,” Zhao Bingyue said, cupping her cheeks. “So does this mean we’re now acquainted with one of those legendary third-generation elites?”
