The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 89

Back at home, Jiang Lianyu was still sobbing, while Qin Miao sat by her side, trying to comfort her. Jiang Yu, already overwhelmed, found her crying increasingly irritating. His mind was in chaos, and Lianyu’s relentless sobbing made his head throb.

Before he could say anything, his phone rang. It was his secretary: “Mr. Jiang, several clients just called and said they want to terminate their cooperation with the company…”

“What? Terminating now?” Jiang Yu exploded. “I’ve already invested half the project’s funds. The money is gone, and now they want to terminate? Don’t forget, breaching the contract comes with penalties!”

On the other end, the secretary stammered nervously. “I told them that, but they said they’d rather pay the penalties and terminate. Apparently, the Lin Group has offered them better terms…”

“The Lin Group!” Jiang Yu spat out each word as if squeezing it through gritted teeth. “Well done! If they want to breach the contract, so be it. I’d like to see what tricks the Lin Group can pull next.”

In Jiang Yu’s mind, the Lin Group must have sacrificed significant benefits to poach these clients. Now it was simply a matter of seeing which side could last longer.

Little did he know that the Lin Group’s actions, even if partly motivated by a desire to help Jiang Chan and Lin Wan, had been meticulously planned. The clients they poached were all profitable ones, while the ones who stayed were almost entirely dependent on Jiang Yu’s company for survival.

“There’s more, Mr. Jiang. The industrial and auditing authorities have arrived as well. They said they’re here to conduct the annual audit…”

The secretary’s voice rose by an octave, filled with shock.

Jiang Yu instantly felt like a chicken with its neck strangled, all his words stuck in his throat. He nearly roared, “Why would auditors come at this time? Hold them off for me, make sure they wait until I get to the company!”

Audits had always been conducted at fixed times, and there were still a few months before the next one was due. Why had the auditors shown up suddenly, just as this chaos was unfolding?

His voice was so loud that Jiang Lianyu’s crying immediately stopped, her sobs caught in her throat. She dared not cry anymore, realizing that Jiang Yu’s mood was terrible. This side of her father was something she had never seen before.

Jiang Yu, without sparing a glance at Qin Miao and Lianyu sobbing in the hall, stormed out. At this moment, nothing mattered more than the company.

The secretary’s voice came through the phone again. “It’s too late, Mr. Jiang. They’ve already entered the finance room. Their attitude is very firm, and we couldn’t stop them at all.”

Jiang Yu was truly furious this time. “What’s the point of keeping you people around if you can’t handle anything in a critical moment?”

The secretary, helpless, replied timidly, “Mr. Jiang, please come back quickly to take charge of the situation.”

Jiang Yu threw the phone aside. “Do I need you to tell me that?”

Although Jiang Yu was anxious about the sudden loss of clients, he wasn’t overly worried. After all, there were plenty of companies in the world, not just the Lin Group.

But tax audits were a different matter. No company’s books were entirely clean. Usually, his company’s accountants could make everything look flawless before scheduled audits.

In the past, Jiang Yu’s company operated in the same way. After all, tax avoidance was considered reasonable. The accountants only needed to balance the books before the audit, and the auditors usually arrived leisurely.

Who could have expected the auditors to show up today? No matter how skilled the accountants were, there was nothing they could do. The truth and falsity would be plain as day. If they uncovered anything, it would be a disaster that couldn’t be easily contained.

That’s why Jiang Yu was so anxious. Without saying another word, he slammed the door and left.

Jiang Lianyu watched her father leave, then turned to Qin Miao with an accusatory look. “He just left like that? I was bullied so badly by that little bitch Jiang Chan, and he didn’t even comfort me before running off?”

Qin Miao felt bitter inside, but she still comforted Jiang Lianyu on the surface. “Something must have happened at your dad’s company. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be this anxious.”

The truth was, Qin Miao had stayed with Jiang Yu all these years for his money. If something happened to him, she needed to start planning her next steps. Her hand, stroking Lianyu’s hair, paused briefly as a flicker of calculation crossed her eyes.

Jiang Lianyu pulled down Qin Miao’s hand. “Mom, I was bullied so badly by Jiang Chan today. You have to help me get back at her.”

Qin Miao smiled bitterly. She had also been humiliated by Jiang Chan today. Of course, she wanted revenge. Forcing a reassuring smile, she said, “Don’t worry. Neither she nor her dead mother will escape.”

Satisfied, Lianyu laid on Qin Miao’s lap and whined, “Mom, how am I supposed to face my classmates at school now? It’s all Jiang Chan’s fault, that little bitch.”

Meanwhile, Jiang Chan, who was sitting in the car, shivered slightly. Someone must be talking about her behind her back. Without even thinking, she knew it had to be the mother-daughter duo of Qin Miao and Jiang Lianyu. As for Jiang Siyu, he probably didn’t even know what had happened yet.

Alright, since they have the time to talk about me behind my back, let the storm rage even harder. Jiang Chan glanced at Lin Jinyu beside her. “I said I wanted to drive Qin Miao and Jiang Yu out, but with how thick-skinned they are, they definitely won’t move out on their own. Brother, can you find some people to help them out?”

Lin Jinyu raised his eyebrows. “Of course. Xiaochan, your way of handling things really embodies the Lin family’s style—swift and decisive, striking right where it hurts.”

Jiang Chan smirked. “Isn’t that normal? If you want to deal with someone, you should knock them down so hard they can’t recover. If you let them off lightly, they’ll just bounce back and annoy you again. Flies don’t bite people to death, but they sure are disgusting.”

This was Jiang Chan’s hard-earned experience. Growing up in the orphanage, she had to fight for everything. Competing for the director’s favor, for daily meals, and for the affection of kind-hearted visitors.

Jiang Chan grew up in an environment where everything had to be fought for, so she naturally developed her own set of rules. Whenever she decided to deal with someone, she would strike so hard that they couldn’t recover. After that, they’d take a detour whenever they saw her. Once you instill fear in them, they wouldn’t dare to show off in front of you again.

Lin Jinyu couldn’t help but laugh at Jiang Chan’s words. He hadn’t expected his aunt, who was so innocent and pure, to give birth to such a cold-hearted and ruthless little girl.

That said, this little girl was still quite likable. Her actions and methods were bold and out in the open, far more upright than those who schemed behind others’ backs.

  1. From a serene buddha to a vengeful mogwai, I wonder how much of our Jiang Chan’s character is effected by the body she inhabits?
