“Truly shameless. Spending the money of the first wife, comfortably supporting a mistress and even the mistress’s child.”
“Exactly. With my mother’s fiery temper, she would’ve torn them apart long ago. How could she tolerate them prancing around in front of her?”
“Like mother, like daughter, huh? Who would’ve thought?”
The students attending this school were all from wealthy or powerful families. Everyone had their own family troubles, but what they despised most were mistresses who interfered in other people’s families, not to mention the existence of illegitimate sons or daughters.
When Jiang Lianyu first transferred here, she claimed she was a legitimate child. Wasn’t that deceiving everyone? Over time, the students treated her kindly because she was beautiful, gentle, and polite. But who knew she had such a disgraceful mother?
Listening to her classmates’ accusations, Jiang Lianyu looked like she was about to collapse. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at Jiang Chan. “What do you want? Your mother took over my father’s life for more than ten years. My mother finally reunited with him. Can’t we just live peacefully as a family?”
“Pfft!” Jiang Chan spat. “Who’s family with you? Don’t forget, the only reason your mother managed to rise to her position was by outlasting my mother until her death. There will always be a dead person standing between you and us. I will never be family with you. I find it disgusting. Who knows if the mistress’s genes are hereditary?”
Jiang Chan bent down and patted Jiang Lianyu’s pale cheek. “Here’s a piece of advice. Hand over what you took from me immediately. I’d rather give it to a beggar than let it be touched by you. Otherwise, I’ll have to call the police. We have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Let me think, how is theft punished again?”
The observing lawyer stepped forward. “According to the ‘Eighth Amendment to the Criminal Law,’ theft is defined as the act of illegally taking public or private property for personal possession. If the stolen amount is substantial, or the theft involves multiple instances, breaking into a house, carrying weapons, or pickpocketing, it constitutes a serious offense. The penalty for serious cases is imprisonment from three to ten years, along with a fine. A ‘substantial amount’ refers to theft valued between 30,000 and 100,000 yuan or more.”
The lawyer glanced at the jade bracelet on Jiang Lianyu’s wrist and the earrings on her ears. “I estimate the value of that jade bracelet and those earrings far exceeds 100,000 yuan. If convicted, the sentence could easily exceed ten years.”
Jiang Chan clapped her hands. “Did you hear that? While I’m still in a good mood, hand over what’s mine. Otherwise, I’ll proceed with legal action.”
“You little brat, must you be so aggressive?”
Before the words were finished, an angry male voice rang out. Jiang Yu and Qin Miao were standing at the doorway. At this moment, Jiang Yu’s nostrils flared slightly in rage, and his face was flushed bright red.
Qin Miao stood behind Jiang Yu, her eyes rimmed with red, looking pitiful and fragile. Unfortunately, her pitiful act was wasted here. These middle school students couldn’t care less about the tearful performance of a woman in her thirties.
Jiang Chan wasn’t surprised to see Jiang Yu and Qin Miao. She glanced at her watch. “You’re a few minutes earlier than I expected. It seems she really is your daughter.”
Jumping off the desk, Jiang Chan smirked. “See that? Your dear parents have come to back you up. It really is true love?”
Jiang Chan sighed dramatically and knocked on the desk impatiently. “Hurry up and hand it over! Who gave you the right to touch my mother’s things? Such shameless behavior!”
Even someone as thick-skinned as Jiang Lianyu couldn’t hold her composure anymore. Flustered, she hurriedly removed the earrings from her ears and tossed them onto the desk. As she was about to take off the jade bracelet, Lin Jinyu interjected.
“That smoky purple jade bracelet was part of my dad’s dowry gift to my aunt. It’s worth 20 million yuan. You’d better handle it carefully. If it gets chipped or scratched, I’ll have your father, Jiang Yu, compensate for it. I wonder if your company even has that much money on its books.”
Startled by the mention of 20 million yuan, Jiang Lianyu no longer dared to act carelessly. She muttered, “Here, take it! Take everything, okay? Now can you leave?”
Jiang Chan carefully put away the jade bracelet and earrings, then turned to Jiang Yu. “Oh, I almost forgot. The house your family of four is currently living in belongs to my moother. It was part of her dowry from my grandfather. Since my mother has passed away, as her primary heir, I’m asking you to move out today. Don’t make me take matters into my own hands.”
Jiang Yu pointed at Jiang Chan, his hand trembling with rage. He hadn’t expected Jiang Chan to be so ruthless. “You, you really are something! How did I end up with such a cold-hearted and ungrateful daughter?”
Jiang Chan slapped his hand away. “What right do you have to accuse me? Cold-hearted and ungrateful? Aren’t you the same? The way you treated my mother is how I’ll treat you. Let me tell you, as long as I’m around, don’t even think about living comfortably!”
“Brother, let’s go. Have the lawyer draft the documents as soon as possible.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yu’s vision went black, and he instinctively tried to chase after her, but Qin Miao held him back. The priority now was to console Jiang Lianyu. Jiang Chan’s outburst had completely torn off their facade of decency.
Helplessly, Jiang Yu frowned, requested leave from the teacher, and left with a sobbing Jiang Lianyu.
After causing a scene, Jiang Chan left satisfied. She had waved her sleeve without taking a single cloud with her, yet she had dropped a deep-water torpedo in the city. The previously dull school life now had such a source of entertainment, and all the students were brimming with energy.
In the car, Lin Jinyu looked at the refreshed Jiang Chan. “Satisfied?”
Jiang Chan clenched her fists. “This is just the beginning. I’m only collecting a bit of interest for now. Slow and steady pain cuts the deepest. I’ll make sure they suffer the way my mother did.”
The driver up front shuddered. He hadn’t expected the young lady to be such a ruthless person, vengeful to the bone. Lin Jinyu, however, appreciated Jiang Chan’s personality. Though her methods were a bit extreme, they were entirely justified.
After this incident, Jiang Lianyu became infamous in City Middle School, known for having a mistress as a mother and a gold-digging father.
Jiang Chan and Jiang Lianyu weren’t in the same grade. Jiang Chan was a year younger, currently in her first year of middle school. She had transferred just in time for summer, with half a month left before vacation.
Since Jiang Lianyu prided herself on her academic achievements, Jiang Chan decided to crush her in her strongest area. Stroking her chin, she said, “Brother, I plan to study hard during summer break and skip a grade to enter third year.”
Lin Jinyu didn’t ask for an explanation. “As long as you can skip the grade, we’ll support you.”
