But when he saw Lin Jinyu sitting on the sofa next to him, Jiang Yu didn’t dare say a word. It was clear that Lin Jinyu was here to support Jiang Chan. Otherwise, would this girl dare to walk into his company so brazenly?
Yet he couldn’t afford to say anything too extreme, as it might bring trouble to the company later. Jiang Yu was someone who knew how to adapt to circumstances, so he forced a smile.
“What do you mean by this, child? Your mother and I only have one daughter, and that’s you. Everything I have will eventually be yours. When you turn eighteen, I’ll transfer your mother’s shares to your name.”
Jiang Chan sneered. “I’m not your only daughter now, am I? You have a son now. You’re going to leave anything for me? ‘If you have a stepmother, you have a stepfather.’ I don’t trust you.”
Seeing that Jiang Yu was about to say more, Jiang Chan impatiently knocked on the table. “Let’s cut to the chase. If you don’t want to hand over the shares, that’s fine, then pay back the money. My mother lent you five million yuan back then. After all these years, you should calculate the interest on a business loan and pay it all back in one lump sum. Brother, five million over fifteen years—how much is that with interest?”
The lawyer stepped in. “Based on the latest commercial loan interest rates, the principal plus interest amounts to eight million. Moreover, considering how well Jiang Yu’s company has performed over the years, Ms. Lin should have been entitled to dividends, which she hasn’t received. A preliminary calculation suggests Mr. Jiang owes Ms. Jiang twenty million yuan in total.”
Jiang Yu finally exploded. He glared at Jiang Chan and said, “Why don’t you just go and rob someone? You’ve really got guts now, huh? Teaming up with outsiders to pressure your own biological father?”
Jiang Chan looked at Jiang Yu’s purpling face and calmly said, “From the moment you started keeping a mistress, you stopped being my father. I don’t have a father as heartless and ungrateful as you.”
Being called heartless to his face, Jiang Yu couldn’t hold his dignity any longer. He grabbed the folder on the desk, intending to hit Jiang Chan with it. But Jiang Chan didn’t flinch and said coldly, “What’s the matter? You can do it, but others aren’t allowed to speak of it? How are you any different from those people who act like whores but still try to put up a virtuous facade?”
If there’s one good thing about modern times, it’s that it’s not like the olden days when parents were always in the right. Back then, blood ties trumped reason, and children weren’t allowed to speak ill of their parents.
Now, it’s completely different. Being able to tear Jiang Yu apart personally made Jiang Chan’s blood boil with excitement.
“Shut up!” Jiang Yu roared, his anger reaching its peak. “I brought you into this world and raised you all these years. Is this how you repay me?”
Jiang Chan raised a finger and wagged it. “Let me correct you. Giving birth to me was my mother’s achievement. At best, you just contributed a sperm cell. Do you think I wanted to be your daughter?”
“And as for raising me? That’s even more laughable,” Jiang Chan sneered. “Do you think you managed to get to where you are today solely because of your abilities? Without my mother’s dowry, could you and your parents have lived so comfortably? Would you still be living in a big villa in the countryside?”
“To put it bluntly, your entire family lived off my mother. And now you have the audacity to say you raised me for so many years?”
Jiang Chan didn’t know she was this eloquent. Watching Jiang Yu’s face grow more and more contorted brought her immense satisfaction. Seeing him stammer and unable to get a word out, Jiang Chan grew impatient with anything else he might try to say.
“It seems we can’t reach an agreement on the first matter. In that case, let’s handle it through legal channels. If it comes to that, I won’t back down so easily.”
“As for the second matter, I want to remove my household registration from yours. Sharing the same household registration with you makes me sick. I’ll leave this to the lawyer to handle. Just wait for the lawyer’s letter.”
“Brother, let’s go. I’ve said all I needed to. Let’s head to my house afterward. I need to collect some of my mother’s belongings.”
Lin Jinyu ruffled Jiang Chan’s short hair. “Alright, let’s bring Auntie’s things back as soon as possible. After this, you’ll have nothing to do with them anymore.”
Jiang Yu could only watch as Jiang Chan and her entourage left his office without a care in the world, leaving him so furious that his vision darkened. Outside the office, the secretaries, who had overheard the commotion, were trembling in fear.
In the car, Lin Jinyu praised Jiang Chan, “Not bad. Your fighting ability is impressive.”
Jiang Chan pressed her lips together. “It’s all because I have you backing me up, Brother. Do you believe that if you weren’t here, I wouldn’t even be able to step through the door of Jiang Yu’s company? Right now, I’m just borrowing your authority to act tough.”
Lin Jinyu teased her, “I thought you were going to say ‘a dog relying on its master’s power’…”
Jiang Chan slapped Lin Jinyu’s arm. “You’re the one who’s the dog…”
Back then, Lin Yuanshan had given Lin Wan two properties as part of her dowry. One of them was a three-story standalone villa with a garden in the front, as Lin Wan loved gardening and growing plants.
Jiang Yu and Lin Wan used to live there. Now, with Jiang Yu married to Qin Miao, she and her son had moved into Lin Wan’s house. When their car stopped in front of the villa, Jiang Chan pulled out the key and opened the door.
As soon as they entered, a delicate woman in her thirties came forward. She looked frail and helpless, evoking a desire to protect her.
This woman, of course, was Qin Miao. She warmly took Jiang Chan’s hand. “Xiao Chan, you’re back? Why didn’t you call ahead? I could’ve made some of your favorite dishes.”
Jiang Chan withdrew her hand. “No need. I’m just here to pick up some of my mother’s things.”
“Brother, give me the list of my mother’s dowry. Let’s cross-check it and see if her jewelry is still here.”
Lin Jinyu chuckled. “No need to make it so complicated. I’ve seen all of Auntie’s jewelry before. The necklace this lady is wearing is one of Auntie’s favorites.”
Qin Miao, suddenly called out, panicked internally. She had only just put on this necklace. How unlucky was it that Jiang Chan happened to show up and catch her red-handed?
Jiang Chan extended her hand. “Please return the necklace. It’s my mother’s jewelry, and I don’t want anyone else touching it.”
Flustered, Qin Miao’s face turned red. Under the watchful eyes of the servants and Lin Jinyu, she reluctantly unclasped the necklace and placed it in Jiang Chan’s palm. In her mind, Lin Wan was already dead, so the jewelry should rightfully belong to her. She didn’t expect Jiang Chan to pull this move.
This unexpected turn of events left Qin Miao at a loss. She’d only been living here for three months and hadn’t had the chance to do much. Jiang Chan casually tossed the necklace into her bag and headed straight for Lin Wan’s bedroom.
It was unclear whether it was out of pride or for some other reason, but Jiang Yu and Qin Miao had chosen to live in the room that Lin Wan had once occupied. The room’s decor had been completely altered, as if to proclaim that Qin Miao was now the mistress of the house.
Jiang Chan, without sparing a glance, started rummaging through the dressing table. Soon, she found all of Qin Miao’s jewelry which included necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, and more.
