The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 84

Jiang Chan wasn’t the kind of person to act coy. She accepted Liang Chen’s kindness but didn’t feel entitled to it. At the end of the day, all relationships were built over time.

Naturally, she would repay Liang Chen’s kindness in due course—at least during the time she was here. When the original owner returned, Jiang Chan suspected she’d do the same.

Liang Chen, ever decisive, dragged Jiang Chan to her familiar styling studio right after lunch. The car weaved through several turns before stopping in front of an imposing building.

“Mei?” Jiang Chan tilted her head to look at the nameplate, which appeared to be a replica of calligraphic script.

“Nice handwriting.”

From Jiang Chan’s perspective, the calligraphy was indeed excellent—its bold strokes exuded strength and vigor. Liang Chen stood beside her, smiling. “Your grandfather will be thrilled to hear that. He’s the one who penned it.”

“Oh? Grandpa has this kind of talent?” Jiang Chan was surprised. The Lin Yuanshan she knew was more rugged than refined. She hadn’t expected this scholarly side to him.

“Of course! Your grandfather has practiced calligraphy for decades.”

As they chatted, they stepped inside, where a figure immediately rushed over. Liang Chen greeted her with a practiced hug. “Kate! It’s been so long.”

Jiang Chan looked up to see a glamorous woman with fiery red lips hugging Liang Chen enthusiastically, laughing so hard she was trembling with joy. Liang Chen pulled Jiang Chan closer. “This is my niece. Give her a proper makeover, will you?”

The next moment, Jiang Chan found herself enveloped in Kate’s embrace, her face pressed against the woman’s ample bosom. She struggled for a moment but soon gave up, finding it surprisingly soft and comfortable.

Was this what people meant when they said, “If you can’t fight it, just enjoy it”?

Kate kept her arms around Jiang Chan, pinching her cheeks and stroking her face. She exclaimed dramatically, “Ah, to be young! Look at how smooth and radiant this skin is.”

Jiang Chan silently thought, You didn’t see the color palette I had on my face yesterday.

“Your hair’s in good condition too, though it’s a shame you dyed it blonde. A different color would suit you better. How about purple?”

Jiang Chan immediately raised an eyebrow. “I think black would be just fine.”

Kate chuckled behind her hand, clearly amused. “I agree. Black is a good choice. Let’s go, I’ll do your styling myself.”

As Kate got to work, Liang Chen casually picked up a magazine and lounged on the sofa, flipping through it.

Three hours later, Kate pushed out a transformed Jiang Chan. The magazine in Liang Chen’s hand slipped to the floor as she stood up and circled Jiang Chan twice, finally giving Kate a thumbs-up. “Excellent! Xiao Chan looks best like this.”

Jiang Chan’s temperament leaned towards being sharp and capable, and Kate highlighted this aspect of her personality. The originally waist-length hair was ruthlessly cut off by Kate without hesitation.

According to Kate, dyed hair was already damaged, so it was better to cut it and let new, healthy hair grow out. Jiang Chan didn’t argue; at times like these, the stylist had the final say.

Girls with short hair naturally exuded a strong presence, and Jiang Chan’s aura was particularly commanding. Kate had also applied light makeup that highlighted her almond-shaped eyes, making her look cool and aloof.

To be honest, while Jiang Chan bore a resemblance to Lin Wan, it was easy to tell them apart. Lin Wan had an unworldly innocence, while Jiang Chan radiated a composed maturity that came from weathering life’s storms.

This kind of temperament seemed especially contradictory on a fourteen-year-old girl, yet it was precisely this contradiction that made Jiang Chan stand out even more.

“All right, I’m leaving now. Put this on my tab. I still have to take Xiao Chan to buy clothes and jewelry. We’ve got a busy afternoon ahead,” Liang Chen announced.

Seeing the new Jiang Chan sparked Liang Chen’s desire to dress her up like a doll. Kate stepped forward. “Let me join you. It’s rare to find such a doll that fits our tastes.”

Doll-like Jiang Chan…

By the time they left Mei, it was already four o’clock. Jiang Chan trudged after Liang Chen and Kate, who had been shopping nonstop for four hours. It was now past eight in the evening.

Liang Chen and Kate, however, seemed to get more energized as they shopped, wanting Jiang Chan to try on everything that caught their eye. Exhausted, Jiang Chan gave up resisting and followed them like a dead dog, dragging her feet.

“Xiao Chan, come try this one!” Kate held up a black dress with a simple yet elegant design.

“Coming,” Jiang Chan replied helplessly, taking the dress into the fitting room. Two minutes later, she walked out, earning unreserved praise from Liang Chen and Kate.

By the time they left the store, Jiang Chan was holding yet another shopping bag. Noticing that Liang Chen and Kate were still eager to continue, Jiang Chan decisively spoke up, “Auntie, we haven’t had dinner yet. How about we go eat?”

At that moment, Jiang Chan was filled with admiration for Liang Chen and Kate. How could she, wearing flats, be outpaced by two women in high heels? Where was the justice in that?

She swore she’d never go shopping with Liang Chen again, it was utterly exhausting!

Seeing Jiang Chan’s desperate expression, Liang Chen and Kate exchanged a glance before relenting. They decided not to push her too hard, otherwise it’d be troublesome to get her to agree to a makeover next time if they scared her off.

While Liang Chen and Jiang Chan were out shopping, Lin Yuanshan, Lin Qiao, and Lin Jinyu were at home discussing how to deal with Jiang Yu. Jiang Yu had been unfaithful in his marriage, so why should he be allowed to live comfortably?

Lin Qiao crossed his legs and said, “I just received a report on Jiang Yu’s activities over the years. That man has been up to all sorts of mischief. Besides his mistress Qin Miao, there are plenty of other women. He even has a fourth and fifth mistress.”

“Though, they aren’t as capable as Qin Miao and those others didn’t manage to have children.”

“First things first, are those two kids really Jiang Yu’s?” The old man was impatient. As long as the children were proven to be his, it would solidify the claim that Jiang Yu had deceived his wife through marriage fraud.

“We need to wait for the detailed test results. It’ll take about three days,” Lin Jinyu replied, squinting. To be honest, after seeing Jiang Yu and Qin Miao’s files, he was thoroughly disgusted.

If Jiang Yu truly loved Qin Miao, how could he have had so many other affairs? But if he were heartless, why would Qin Miao be the only one to bear him children?

Still, Lin Jinyu didn’t care about Jiang Yu’s affections or lack thereof. “Jiang Yu’s company has business dealings with the Lin Corporation. I propose we terminate all contracts starting tomorrow and suppress his company without holding back.”

“I agree,” Jiang Chan said as she and Liang Chen entered. Having overheard Lin Jinyu’s proposal, she naturally supported it.
