The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 81

Jiang Chan reacted quickly: “Grandpa, Uncle, I just don’t want to go back to that house anymore. There’s already a new mistress there, and they have children. They’re a family now. Without my mother, how could that place still be called home?”

The old man waved his hand decisively, “From now on, Xiao Chan will live here. There’s no need to go to Jiang Yu’s place. If there’s anything, let Jiang Yu come to me. I’d like to see when that grandson of mine decides to show up.”

Yes, the first step was taken, a good start. Jiang Chan was pleased but kept her expression neutral. “Grandpa, I’m planning to take two days off tomorrow and the day after. I want to dye my hair back to black.”

The old man immediately nodded: “Alright. Your aunt Liang Chen is coming back tomorrow. Let her go with you. She has a good eye. Since you’ll be staying here in the future, let her help you pick out some clothes.”

Jiang Chan felt a little apologetic. “Aunt will be exhausted from flying back. She should rest well. How could I trouble her?”

Lin Qiao interjected, “You’re my niece, we’re family. Why be so formal? Your aunt has always dreamed of having a daughter. When she sees you, she’ll be overjoyed.”

Jiang Chan immediately understood. So, to Aunt Liang Chen, she was like a big doll now.

Since that was the case, Jiang Chan didn’t overthink it and readily agreed.

Lin Qiao’s lips curved slightly: “Tomorrow, Jinyu will give you a card. Use it as you like.”

Jiang Chan’s eyes lit up like stars. She never thought she’d hear someone say, “Use my card as you please” in her lifetime. She nodded. “If Brother Jin Yu doesn’t mind, could I follow him around and learn from him?”

Lin Yuanshan and Lin Qiao exchanged glances. Jiang Chan touched her nose. “The reason Jiang Yu got to where he is today is because of my mother’s dowry. Now that he has his own children, the family assets will surely be left to Jiang Siyu. I won’t let my mother’s belongings end up in someone else’s hands, especially not Qin Miao’s.”

Although she didn’t place much importance on money, she couldn’t let Qin Miao and her daughter benefit for no reason, could she? Besides, this was the original host’s task. Moreover, Jiang Yu’s success was originally built on Lin Wan’s dowry. Now that Lin Wan had passed away, shouldn’t her belongings rightfully be inherited by the original host? What was the point of leaving them to Jiang Siyu?

Although Jiang Chan hadn’t met Jiang Yu yet, from the original owner’s memories, she already had no fondness for him. Spending his first wife’s money while comfortably supporting his mistress and her child—this man was truly disgusting.

The old man’s thick eyebrows furrowed: “Ungrateful scum! I said from the start this man couldn’t be trusted. Your mother’s eyes were like they were covered in filth, blindly determined to stay with him.”

Jiang Chan remained calm, as if she hadn’t heard the old man’s less-than-elegant words. “She’s gone now, and she’s already been punished. My mother passed away from depression.”

“Depression?” The Lin father and son were shocked. Lin Wan had always been so optimistic. How could someone like her succumb to depression?

“Her health wasn’t good in recent years. Then Qin Miao became even more brazen, constantly calling to provoke her. She just couldn’t bear it anymore.”

Jiang Chan lowered her gaze. These details were dug out from the original owner’s memories. While Lin Wan was a bit naïve, she wasn’t stupid. Especially in recent years, as Jiang Yu and Qin Miao’s actions grew more outrageous, Lin Wan had noticed.

However, marrying Jiang Yu back then had already gone against her father Lin Yuanshan’s wishes. Her unhappy life now just proved Lin Yuanshan’s predictions about Jiang Yu.

Out of sheer pride, she dragged on without divorcing him, unwilling to let her family know she was suffering—just to save face.

Lin Wan could only be described as too naive. From Jiang Chan’s perspective, she strongly disagreed with Lin Wan’s choices. Lin Yuanshan and Lin Qiao cared deeply for her, yet she had stubbornly let a scumbag ruin her life, leaving them to bury her in grief.

“She never told us that she was in poor health.” Old Master Lin Yuan Shan seemed to have lost all his vitality as he slumped into the sofa, appearing to have aged several years in an instant.

“She was too proud to let you know how miserable her life had become,” Jiang Chan said lightly. “In the end, it was just a matter of stubbornness. Unfortunately, that stubbornness cost her her life.”

The old man waved his hand. “Enough, stop talking about it. Go rest.”

As someone who had lived a hard and determined life, he couldn’t fathom why Lin Wan had made those choices. Looking back, regret filled him. If they had been more resolute back then, firmly opposing her marriage to Jiang Yu, would things have turned out differently?

Jiang Chan nodded: “I’ll go rest first. Take care of yourself. What Jiang Yu and Qin Miao owe my mother isn’t just a little, it’s a lot. I’ll personally make them pay it back. None of those who hurt my mother should expect to get away with it.”

Her tone was calm, but the chill in her words was palpable. Lin Qiao nodded approvingly and said, “This is adult business. You’re still a child—don’t get involved. Your grandpa and I will see justice for your mother.”

Jiang Chan made no comment. She slightly bowed toward Lin Yuanshan and said, “You should rest early. I’ll head back to my room first.”

Lin Yuanshan weakly waved his hand. “Go ahead.”

Once Jiang Chan was out of sight, Lin Yuanshan sighed. “Xiao Chan’s temperament… sigh, it’s a bit cold.”

Lin Qiao disagreed. “Overly emotional people are bound to get hurt. I think Xiao Chan’s attitude is just right. She cares deeply for my sister, and that’s enough.”

“If she were older and capable of confronting Jiang Yu, I suspect she wouldn’t even bother contacting us. After all, we were the ones who broke your sister’s heart back then.”

“Don’t say that, Dad. Xiao Chan herself admitted that my sister eventually realized her mistake but was too proud to reconcile with us. If she had reached out sooner, there’s no way she would have passed away before even turning forty.”

When Lin Qiao mentioned Lin Wan’s age at her passing, his voice choked with emotion. His younger sister, over a decade younger than him, had been cherished like a jewel by their family. Yet, she was reduced to such a tragic end by Jiang Yu and Qin Miao.

This debt would be settled! Lin Qiao ground his teeth in hatred for Jiang Yu and Qin Miao.

“Handle this yourself. I need some time alone.”

Lin Yuanshan’s hoarse voice trembled. Jiang Chan’s revelations had shaken him deeply.

Lin Yuanshan never expected that there were so many hidden truths behind Lin Wan’s passing. In hindsight, it was his fault as a father. At the time, Lin Wan was still immature, and he should have taken a firm stance to handle the situation. Perhaps then, so many tragedies wouldn’t have followed.

Seeing that his father’s condition wasn’t too dire, Lin Qiao returned to his study. He needed to carefully plan how to deal with Jiang Yu and his family.

Jiang Yu and Qin Miao were living so happily now, but it was all built on Lin Wan’s suffering. There was no way these wicked people would continue enjoying their lives in peace.
