The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 210

“You can think of it that way, but it isn’t quite the same. Our inherited memories are imprinted in our bloodlines. They only unlock once we reach the required cultivation level.”

“Gu Miao’er is different. It’s more as though she dreamed of her previous life. Her cultivation is still low, which is why you can sense that her aura is muddled. Once her cultivation improves, she’ll essentially be able to integrate those memories, and no one will be able to tell anymore.”

“How do you know? You haven’t met Gu Miao’er either, have you?” Mo Yu shook her head, finding her companion harder and harder to understand.

“Of course I’ve met her. How else would I know her secrets? Her fortune is just too strong. She had such a good life before, yet she’s been given another chance. Heaven really does favor her.”

“Forget about her. Personally, I don’t think being favored like that is necessarily a good thing. It’s better to earn everything through your own efforts. Every little thing in this world has its place in fate.”

Mo Yu did not envy Gu Miao’er. She was practical by nature and believed that obtaining something required paying an appropriate price. Perhaps everything came easily to Gu Miao’er now, but what about later?

Was there really anything in this world that could be gained without effort? Could someone truly receive everything without paying any price?

Jiang Chan explained briefly, “She won’t be carrying on for much longer anyway. I have a karmic connection with her too, but an unpleasant one.”

Mo Yu muttered, “You certainly have a lot of karmic connections. Are there any more with anyone else?”

Jiang Chan shrugged. “No. Just these two. I couldn’t handle any more.”

“It more or less makes sense now,” Mo Yu murmured. “No wonder Gu Miao’er asked Feng Qiwu today whether she had a mouse-type spirit beast with a golden line on its forehead.”

Her eyes suddenly widened. “That couldn’t have been you, could it? I remember you had a golden line on your body back then. So, in Gu Miao’er’s previous life, you were with Feng Qiwu?”

Jiang Chan gave her a deadpan look. “Since when did you get so clever?”

Mo Yu chuckled. “True wisdom can look like foolishness. You’re always so clever, yet I’ve still seen through you now, haven’t I? But Gu Miao’er awakened memories of her previous life. What would you call your situation?”

Jiang Chan was helpless. “How would I know? All I know is that I opened my eyes in the forest of magical beasts.”

Mo Yu nudged Jiang Chan’s shoulder with a sly smile. “It seems your fortune isn’t bad either.”

Jiang Chan could only sigh inwardly. She was not the fortunate one, and this was not fortune. It was the deal Xiao Jin had made with Qingyuan.

“You said everyone who opposes Gu Miao’er comes to a bad end. Since she wanted you, Feng Qiwu must have had a bad life last time. No wonder you said you had a karmic connection with her.”

By now, Jiang Chan wished she could cover Mo Yu’s mouth. Usually so loud and seemingly thoughtless, she had suddenly become perceptive, spelling everything out with perfect clarity.

“Please, stop talking!”

“Alright, I’ll stop. Don’t worry. Your problems are my problems. If you need anything, just say the word.”

Mo Yu thumped her chest, ready to do anything for her friend.

“There’s no need. I’ve already made all the arrangements. You’ll be helping me if you just stay put and behave.”

“What arrangements? Tell me!” Mo Yu’s eyes lit up, her curiosity overflowing.

“I can’t reveal Heaven’s secrets. You’ll find out later.”

Gu Miao’er had been riding high lately. With Tang Yubai’s engagement to Feng Qiwu dissolved, she walked with a spring in her step. Every night, she still dreamed of the deep love she and Tang Yubai shared.

Events were indeed unfolding just as they had in her dreams. Feng Qiwu and Tang Yubai had broken off their engagement. But something unsettled Gu Miao’er. Where was the black Treasure-Hunting Mouse with the golden line between its brows that had accompanied Feng Qiwu?

She had even asked Feng Qiwu specifically, only to receive an outright denial. Could her dream have somehow caused the Treasure-Hunting Mouse to disappear?

How could that be allowed? She had failed to obtain it in her previous life. In this life, she would find a way to get it, whatever it took! She did not think Feng Qiwu was lying. Feng Qiwu was completely frank and always told things as they were.

Then could the Treasure-Hunting Mouse still be in the forest of magical beasts? In her dreams, she had coveted that mouse intensely. The little creature was incredible. Wherever there was treasure, a twitch of its nose and a glance were enough for it to find it.

Following the Treasure-Hunting Mouse, Feng Qiwu had obtained countless treasures, making even the extraordinarily fortunate Gu Miao’er green with envy. People never thought they had too much. Greed was human nature.

After failing to get Feng Qiwu to hand over Xiao Jin, Gu Miao’er had spread word that Feng Qiwu had a Treasure-Hunting Mouse. This stirred up a storm throughout the cultivation world, and people from all factions began hunting Feng Qiwu, chiefly for the mouse.

A Treasure-Hunting Mouse was simply too tempting. No one could remain unmoved. But with so many cultivators pursuing her, Feng Qiwu had died, and the Treasure-Hunting Mouse had perished with her.

When Gu Miao’er, then at the late Nascent Soul stage, heard the news, she merely regretted not obtaining the Treasure-Hunting Mouse. She did not care in the slightest about the loss of a human life.

Now, after having this dream, Gu Miao’er was even more determined to obtain Xiao Jin. It had become an obsession that haunted her across two lifetimes. But what was going on now? Xiao Jin had not appeared at all, and a sense of crisis rose within her.

Three years passed in the blink of an eye. Feng Qiwu had reached the late Foundation Establishment stage, with Golden Core within reach. She had visited Jiang Chan’s Alchemy Peak frequently over these years, having found a sparring partner in Mo Yu.

Of course, it was really Mo Yu overwhelming Feng Qiwu one-sidedly. Mo Yu was already a Nascent Soul elder, after all. Only Feng Qiwu could persuade her to help train her in combat.

If any other disciples came, Mo Yu would not even look at them. Spirit beasts had their own pride too!

After their customary bout had exhausted Feng Qiwu’s strength, Mo Yu nodded in satisfaction. “Good. You lasted the time it takes an incense stick to burn against me. Clearly, you’ve been cultivating very diligently lately.”

Leaning on her sword, Feng Qiwu stood up. Despite the weakness in her limbs, she held herself perfectly straight. “It’s all thanks to your guidance, Elder Mo.”

Mo Yu nodded. “Go back and rest properly. You’re progressing quickly. In just three years, you’ve reached the late Foundation Establishment stage. Once you reach Golden Core, you’ll probably be unmatched among Golden Core cultivators. No wonder sword cultivation is considered such a formidable path.”

“Exactly. Senior Sister is the best. Wasn’t there someone whose reputation rivaled hers before? Now Senior Sister is almost at Golden Core, while that person is still stuck at the early Foundation Establishment stage.”
