“You’re not going to say it, huh? If you don’t, then we’re getting a divorce right now, and you’re leaving with nothing!” Jiang Yu didn’t care that they were still at the testing agency and immediately made this ruthless declaration.
Qin Miao wiped away her tears. “Why should I leave with nothing? I’ve stayed by your side for over ten years without a proper title. Even if Siyu isn’t your son, does all those years of him calling you ‘Dad’ mean nothing?”
Jiang Yu’s fingers trembled with rage. He stopped speaking to Qin Miao and looked at Jiang Lianyu. “Your mom and I are divorcing. Are you going to stay with me or with her?”
Jiang Lianyu said, “Can’t you just not get divorced? I just want Mom and Dad to be together.”
These past two days had truly worn Jiang Lianyu out. How did things suddenly take such a sharp turn? How could Siyu not be Jiang Yu’s son? At this moment, she couldn’t help but blame Qin Miao.
Even if you were messing around outside, you should’ve at least cleaned up after yourself. And now, the evidence is out in the open. She glanced at Jiang Siyu, who was shrinking beside Qin Miao, a flicker of resentment in her eyes.
If it weren’t for him, would the family have ended up like this?
Jiang Yu gritted his teeth. “We’re definitely getting divorced. I don’t have it in me to raise someone else’s child. Qin Miao, you’re really something. All these years, you’ve been making a fool of me.”
Qin Miao raised her head. “Don’t pretend to be so innocent. What right do you have to lecture me? Isn’t this just your excuse to finally divorce and make room for that mistress of yours?”
“Now that you’ve got this handle on me, you’re really excited, huh? What, is that mistress of yours starting to show?”
Things had reached this point, and Qin Miao decided to throw caution to the wind. She didn’t care about saving face anymore and spilled all of Jiang Yu’s dirty secrets.
Jiang Lianyu had already covered her mouth. In just one day, both Qin Miao and Jiang Yu had completely changed. They had torn off their hypocritical masks, revealing something ugly and revolting.
The staff member said coldly, “If you want to argue, do it at home. We’re done for the day. Please leave.”
They had seen plenty of drama like this before. It wasn’t surprising at all. Still, this couple really was something else.
Jiang Yu didn’t want to be near Qin Miao for another second. He stormed ahead angrily and, as he walked out the door, turned to Jiang Lianyu and asked, “Are you coming with me or with your mom?”
“I’ll go with Dad.” Jiang Lianyu glanced at Qin Miao’s emotionless face. She was holding Jiang Siyu’s hand, and her eyes flicked slightly at the sound of Jiang Lianyu’s words.
Jiang Lianyu was still quite cold and calculating. If she went with Qin Miao, who didn’t have a stable job, how would she afford her tuition? And with Jiang Siyu in the picture, Qin Miao would probably focus more on him.
It would be different with Jiang Yu. He still had money, and her material conditions wouldn’t change much.
It had to be said, Jiang Lianyu was shrewd in her calculations. At a time like this, she had to think of her own interests.
Hearing her words, Jiang Yu nodded. “Alright, come back with me. As for the rest of you, I’ll contact a lawyer tomorrow. Let’s end this cleanly.”
Qin Miao gave a bitter smile. “End it cleanly? Isn’t this all just so you can make room for your little mistress? Even if we go to court, you don’t exactly have the moral high ground.”
Jiang Yu frowned. “Are you threatening me? If you want to go through legal procedures, I’ll play along. But you’d better think it through.”
Qin Miao said, “Would I dare go to court with you? Fine, we’ll divorce. Siyu called you ‘Dad’ for so many years. I hope you won’t be so heartless. I was the one who made the mistake. He’s innocent.”
Seeing that Qin Miao wasn’t going to cling on, Jiang Yu nodded. “Since you’re being reasonable, I won’t go after you. For the sake of all these years together, I’ll give you five million. you can live well for the rest of your life.”
Jiang Yu pulled out his checkbook, quickly wrote a check, and handed it to Qin Miao. Then he turned and left with Jiang Lianyu without another word. Qin Miao stood there holding the check, and tears began streaming down her face.
She knew that no matter how much Jiang Yu had once loved her, there was no going back. Not to mention, Jiang Yu now had a child of his own. He was probably rushing off to see Qi Yan.
Qin Miao knew Jiang Yu all too well. After he took Jiang Lianyu home, he gave her a few instructions and handed her some money, then left again without even drinking a sip of water.
Looking at the empty living room, Jiang Lianyu hugged herself tightly. Had she made a mistake choosing to go with Jiang Yu? But in the next moment, she steeled herself. If she had gone with Qin Miao, that truly would have been the start of a miserable life.
Now that it was confirmed Jiang Siyu wasn’t his child, Jiang Yu was even more eager about the baby in Qi Yan’s belly. He still held old-fashioned beliefs and felt that he had to have a son to carry on the family name.
When Jiang Chan received word from Qi Yan that Jiang Yu and Qin Miao had divorced, she felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. With this refreshing feeling, she started the new school term.
She was now officially a first-year high school student. High school classes were much more difficult. If she wanted to hold onto her top rank, Jiang Chan would have to invest even more time into studying.
As someone who moved up directly from the junior high division, Jiang Chan was already on the radar of the high school teachers. In fact, almost all of Class One students from junior high had been noted by the staff.
Several first-year homeroom teachers were fighting to have Jiang Chan in their class. Of course, Jiang Chan had no idea about the teacher politics. She was busy handling her admission procedures with Liang Chen by her side.
Though Liang Chen accompanied her, Jiang Chan took care of everything herself. She was used to doing things independently and couldn’t bring herself to let an elder run around for her.
Liang Chen stood under the shade of a nearby tree, watching Jiang Chan busily move about. Since she also had to manage company affairs, Jiang Chan had registered as a day student. Once everything was settled, Liang Chen headed home, and Jiang Chan went to her classroom to wait for the distribution of new books.
She walked in and, as usual, headed straight to the familiar seat by the window in the last row. Mo Xingyu waved enthusiastically. “Sister Chan, over here! I knew you’d want to sit here, so I saved you a spot.”
Jiang Chan looked around. Half the class was made up of familiar faces, her old classmates from Class One, which gave her a comforting sense of familiarity. And when she saw Mo Xingyu’s round face, her mood lifted even more.
Honestly, while Mo Xingyu was gossipy and a bit noisy, she always knew her limits. Otherwise, how could she have ended up as her deskmate for an entire year? She had her own merits.
