No one could afford to touch the Tang family’s karma.
Even Fang Tianshi had not been able to deal with that female ghost. They should forget about it.
“Are you all planning to give up?” Fang Yunchi saw the others retreating and hurriedly said, “I will definitely give you what I promised, as long as you help me take down that female ghost. Once she’s destroyed, won’t the karma be gone?”
“Boy Fang, it’s not that we won’t help you deal with a ghost. If she truly had no connection to the Tang family and had committed many evil deeds, then as ghost-catching Daoists, we would naturally have the duty to act.”
“But this female ghost belongs to the Tang family. The Tang family’s karma is too heavy. None of us here can bear it.”
An older Daoist sighed at Fang Yunchi. “Boy Fang, listen to my advice. Your master died because his karma caught up to him. If it truly was the Tang family’s eldest daughter who killed him, then that can only be called revenge. After all, your master destroyed her mother’s soul. Think about yourself. Aren’t you filled with hatred for her because she killed your master?”
“If you could defeat her, that would be one thing. But you are simply not her match.”
It was not that they looked down on Fang Yunchi. Fang Tianshi had been so powerful, yet that female ghost killed him without hesitation. That alone showed the depth of her cultivation.
“How can that be the same? If her mother had not done evil, caused a miscarriage, and thrown the entire Tang household into chaos, my master would never have destroyed her. Ghosts who harm people deserve to die.”
“And what about people who harm others?”
A pleasant voice suddenly sounded from not far away, drawing everyone’s attention.
Tang Guo floated up from below. The crowd looked at her warily and quickly distanced themselves from Fang Yunchi, as if to make clear they had nothing to do with him and were merely passing by.
Tang Guo paid them no mind. She smiled at Fang Yunchi. “You say ghosts who harm people deserve to die. Then what about people who harm others?”
“Bad people will be punished by the law. Even if the law fails, heaven will deal with them.”
Tang Guo strolled to Qin Jiu’s side and smiled. “Have you heard the phrase ‘acting on heaven’s behalf’? Heaven is so busy, it surely cannot handle everything. So I help take care of these troublesome matters and eliminate the bad people. Isn’t that a good thing?”
“My master was not a bad person. On the contrary, he saved many people and eradicated those evil ghosts,” Fang Yunchi said urgently.
Tang Guo let out a soft laugh. “He was your master, so of course in your eyes he was not a bad person. But he made my mother’s soul scatter. To me, he was evil. Avenging my mother is perfectly justified. I did nothing wrong.”
“Then avenging my master is also perfectly justified,” Fang Yunchi said instinctively.
Tang Guo laughed. “Exactly. If you say it’s revenge, then I won’t look down on you. But if you try to use some excuse, claiming I’ve committed unforgivable crimes and that you’re upholding justice and eliminating evil by destroying me, that’s not right.”
“Fang Yunchi, if you want revenge for personal reasons, I will accompany you at any time.”
“But I advise you to give up. You cannot defeat me. Even in ten years, or a hundred years, you will never be my match. By the time you grow old, I will only be stronger.”
Fang Yunchi flushed red at her words. “Killing you is not only for personal revenge. It is also for other reasons. For example, if you harm people, then by killing you, no one else will suffer at your hands.”
“Then tell me, how have I harmed people?”
“You…” Fang Yunchi recalled what she had done, his expression darkening.
