Tang Guo floated back and forth, selecting many beautiful outfits.
In the end, Qin Jiu returned to the cemetery and burned all the clothes for her. There were dozens of sets, along with various pretty shoes.
Qin Jiu stood in front of Tang Guo’s grave and watched her sitting on the tombstone. The clothes and shoes on her body kept changing as she tried them on. She looked delighted, and he could not help but smile faintly.
“Daoist Qin, does this one look good?”
“It looks good.”
“What about this one?”
“It looks good.”
“And this?”
“They all look good.”
Tang Guo fell silent.
“Daoist Qin, is ‘looks good’ the only way you know how to describe things?”
Qin Jiu smiled. “I’m telling the truth. They really do look very good.”
System: [Host, let me say something. Qin Jiu is a straight man. If he says it looks good, then it probably really does look good. I think using ‘looks good’ is perfectly fine.]
Tang Guo burst into laughter. “Tongzi, are you a straight system too?”
System: He should not have interrupted.
Tang Guo tried on all the outfits and finally chose the one she thought looked best. She wore it and floated to Qin Jiu’s side.
“Daoist Qin, help me investigate the cause of my mother’s death.”
Qin Jiu’s expression became serious. “All right.”
The next day, using the clues Tang Guo provided, Qin Jiu visited many people who had known Mother Tang and learned about the circumstances surrounding the car accident.
“I remember it was about three years ago. Tang Guo said she was going on a trip and then never came back. At the time, Song Xiaoyun searched everywhere. She even asked the classmates who had traveled with Tang Guo. They only knew that the last place they parted was somewhere very remote. She said a quick goodbye to us and went to look for her.”
“Not long after that, we heard she died in a car accident.”
“I heard the Tang family searched later too, and even reported it to the police. But after more than three years, there was still no news.”
Tang Guo said beside Qin Jiu, “Ask her how long after my mom’s accident my dad remarried.”
Qin Jiu repeated the question.
The woman’s expression turned slightly strange. She lowered her voice. “Not long. Just over two months. At that time, we heard that woman was pregnant, but later she lost the baby.”
“Daoist, I’ll tell you something. The matter of that woman losing her child was very strange. The Tang family moved because of that incident,” the woman said softly. “I’m only telling you because you’re a Taoist and don’t look like a bad person. I used to be quite close with Song Xiaoyun. She helped me a lot when I was struggling.”
“You’re asking about this matter. You must have some suspicions, right?”
Qin Jiu nodded. “I was entrusted to uncover a truth.”
“All right. I’ll only tell you this,” the woman said, glancing around even though no one was paying attention. She still checked cautiously before speaking. “There was something strange about the Tang family’s old villa. After that woman lost her child, I accidentally learned that they invited a ghost catching Taoist. They said there was something unclean inside. Not long after that, they moved out. That villa has never been sold. Whenever someone inquires about it and hears that a Taoist had to deal with something there, they refuse to buy it.”
“That’s all I know. Daoist, I suspect that whatever appeared in the villa was likely Xiaoyun’s ghost. If you truly have the ability, you should go take a look. You might find something. I always doubted how Xiaoyun could have had that accident so easily. She was always cautious and alert. But,” the woman gave a faint smile, “I’m just an outsider. There’s only so much I can do.”
