“Senior Qin, there is a Ghost King level fierce ghost causing harm here. I must trouble you to subdue her.”
Tang Guo suddenly understood. She let out an “oh” and smiled. “So you’re here to catch ghosts too?”
“No.”
Qin Jiu shook his head. A trace of scrutiny flashed in his eyes. In his mind appeared the image of the female ghost smiling at him just now. That smile had given him the feeling that she seemed to know him.
But he was certain that he did not know this female ghost.
“Senior Qin, this female ghost has committed many evil deeds. You must subdue her. Just now she nearly slaughtered the entire village,” Fang Yunchi said anxiously, quickly recounting everything that had happened. “So, Senior Qin, you absolutely cannot let her go.”
Qin Jiu did not show any disgust toward Tang Guo because of those words.
He did not respond to Fang Yunchi either. Instead, he raised his fingers and calculated briefly. His eyes narrowed slightly. “Cause and effect cycle. Not my business.”
“Qin…”
“And I do not wish to interfere. I am a Taoist who captures demons, not ghosts,” Qin Jiu said solemnly. “What has happened to the people of this village is their retribution. If I interfere, I will incur karma. Not worth it.”
“Senior Qin, once you subdue this female ghost, I will tell my master to pay you the reward.”
Fang Yunchi suddenly remembered that Qin Jiu was known in their circle as someone who accepted payment to resolve disasters. He rarely did anything without profit. His temperament was quite cold. If the payment was insufficient, he could watch you die.
The more Fang Yunchi thought about it, the worse his expression became. “I will absolutely not deceive you, Senior Qin. You should know my master. He is not someone who refuses to pay.”
“I said I won’t. I only capture demons, not ghosts.”
He glanced at the female ghost and calculated inwardly. He probably could not defeat her. Her soul form was powerful, and she was protected by a dense layer of merit. Faintly, he felt there was even more.
Besides, he found her rather pleasing to the eye. There was no need to create conflict.
Fang Yunchi was disappointed.
Tang Guo was also somewhat surprised. This Taoist was indeed interesting.
“Taoist, you really aren’t going to capture me?”
“I said I won’t, so I won’t. Why would I capture you?”
He could not win. He would get beaten. There was no payment. In the end, he might lose face and damage his reputation, perhaps even lose future business. No matter how he thought about it, it was not worth it.
Tang Guo seemed to catch something from Fang Yunchi’s words. This Taoist appeared to be the type who took money to resolve troubles, someone who cared deeply about profit.
She thought of the skeleton still hanging on the cliff wall and took out a bead. “Taoist, help me with something, and I’ll give you this as payment.”
Qin Jiu stared at the bead and narrowed his eyes. It was not simple. The faint spiritual energy emanating from it was soothing. It was a good item.
He did not take it immediately. “What is it?” It was said that beautiful female ghosts were the best at deceiving people.
Better to be cautious.
“Help me collect my remains. Will you do it?” Tang Guo asked with a smile.
Qin Jiu was stunned for a moment. He had not expected that. He answered decisively, “I will.”
Tang Guo tossed the bead to Qin Jiu. “You must bring my remains back to my home. You know what to do, right?”
“I know.”
She had been thinking about how to bring the original owner’s body back home. Qin Jiu seemed more reliable than many others.
It was not because she believed he was a familiar soul, but because people who took money to resolve troubles generally did not care about rules. They only cared about keeping their word. If the payment was sufficient, he would complete the matter properly.
