Transmigrated Canon Fodder, Please Calm Down! Chapter 613

Hearing what Xie Shijun said, Song Ye only looked at Tang Guo, his wife. Tang Guo gave him an especially sweet smile, so sweet it nearly melted his heart.

If it weren’t for Xie Shijun and the others being present, he really wanted to hold her and kiss her eyes. Those eyes that could speak and had brought him endless warmth.

Xie Shijun let out a light cough, truly feeling envious. He had a wife, but not love.

Before joining the military, he had been a bit of a literary youth and had once envied the kind of love described in books.

He had imagined that his future wife would be a girl with a sweet smile, a smile reserved only for him. He would pamper her endlessly, making everyone envious of her.

But in reality, he had a capable and virtuous wife, yet had never experienced the kind of intoxicating love stories written in books.

Still, he was someone who knew contentment. With a capable and virtuous wife, all he could do was treat her as well as possible. The absence of love might be a regret, but he could still have something better than love.

He and Chen Ying might never develop love, but he would work hard for their family, give her a warm life, and continue treating her well. Growing old together and becoming like family was also a good outcome.

With warmth in his eyes, he glanced at Chen Ying beside him. But Chen Ying didn’t see that the man next to her, who looked rough on the outside, actually had a delicate heart and had always been trying hard to make their life better.

She also overlooked what she already had. A man who wholeheartedly wanted to treat her well, who was willing to work hard for her. Even without love between them, he was still willing to walk the road with her and take on a man’s responsibility.

She only saw that the man who had spent a lifetime in mutual resentment with her in their previous life had now achieved so much and remained tender and attentive to another woman for over ten years.

She refused to accept reality and felt even more troubled by the outcome of her previous life. Her resentment toward Song Ye and Tang Guo only deepened.

Why? Why could Tang Guo make Song Ye treat her that way?

“This time, I really have to thank Director Song.”

Xie Shijun remembered the purpose of inviting Song Ye today and had to say a few more words of gratitude.

Chen Ying was jolted back to her senses by Xie Shijun’s words. She was a little confused. Thank Song Ye? What had Xie Shijun asked of Song Ye?

She tugged at Xie Shijun and asked in a low voice, “What did you ask him to help with?”

These words were truly disrespectful. Xie Shijun felt a bit displeased, but recalling that Chen Ying had spoken softly and Song Ye probably hadn’t heard, he let out a sigh of relief.

“It’s about the job in the city. I mentioned it before, but you didn’t want to talk about it. Today’s dinner with Director Song is to thank him. If it weren’t for his help, I would’ve ended up in the neighboring county.”

The county was nowhere near as good as the city, unless it was Tang County.

Xie Shijun was truly grateful. With Song Ye’s help this time, he could benefit for many years, unless he left the city. People wouldn’t make things difficult for him out of respect for Song Ye.

It could be said that he owed Song Ye a huge favor. If not for being from the same village, Song Ye would never have helped him.

That was why Chen Ying’s attitude made him especially uncomfortable. He thought to himself that after they got home, he had to have a proper talk with Yingzi so they didn’t offend his benefactor.

When Chen Ying heard that the job in the city was thanks to Song Ye’s help, and not because Xie Shijun’s ability had been recognized and appreciated by the city leaders as she had assumed, her mind exploded on the spot.

    !!!

This man is so cute, wtf. Better than Song Ye, honestly. Then again, he was probably as much of a simp as Song Ye with Tang Guo in the past life…
