The Yuan family’s old residence and property were returned to Elder Yuan after he was rehabilitated.
Now, Elder Yuan lived alone in the courtyard house. He didn’t do much, just practiced calligraphy, painted, walked his bird, and lived a very flavorful life.
It was just that there were far fewer people around him now. Some people never came back once they left.
His only daughter had passed away many years ago, his wife had also passed early, and his two grandchildren each had their own lives. His granddaughter had gotten in touch a few years ago, and he also learned that his grandson was doing well.
Elder Yuan felt a bit better, but still had some regrets. He had never had the chance to meet his grandson.
That day, Elder Yuan lay on a bamboo chair, basking in the warm sun, listening to the birdsong by his ear, and was dozing off.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Song Qing had hired someone to take care of Elder Yuan’s daily needs. Upon hearing the knock, the caretaker quickly went to open the door. Seeing Song Qing and her boyfriend, along with two unfamiliar young people, she welcomed them inside.
“Who’s here?”
Elder Yuan was startled awake. He squinted toward the doorway and immediately perked up when he saw Song Qing walk in first. He quickly sat up. “Qingqing and Xiao Li, what brings you here today?”
“Grandpa.” Song Qing walked up with a smile. “Look who I brought with me.”
Song Qing stepped aside to reveal Song Ye’s face. The sudden appearance of a young man left Elder Yuan a little dazed. When Song Ye left back then, he was only eleven years old. So much had changed. Elder Yuan just felt that this young man looked familiar, like he’d seen him somewhere before, but couldn’t quite remember. He squinted at Song Ye for a long time.
Song Ye was the first to speak. “Grandpa, it’s me.”
Elder Yuan froze for a moment, then quickly reacted. He rushed forward and tightly grasped Song Ye’s hands. “Xiao Ye? You’re Xiao Ye?”
“It’s me, Grandpa.” Song Ye was also very emotional. Seeing Elder Yuan in good health, his worries eased. He hadn’t forgotten to bring Tang Guo forward. “This is Guo Guo, your granddaughter-in-law.”
Elder Yuan was the happiest he’d been today. Happier even than when he learned he could return to Beijing and someone came to pick him up.
The whole family was finally reunited and spent several harmonious days together. Elder Yuan especially liked talking with Tang Guo, often asking about Tang County’s development, and occasionally offering suggestions, which Tang Guo found very beneficial.
When Tang Guo mentioned bringing him to Tang County, Elder Yuan declined. He smiled and said that staying in Beijing still served a purpose.
Even though he looked idle now, he hadn’t intended to give up certain things, especially since he still had two very important family members. Staying here, he might still be able to help with something in the future.
It had to be said, the elder truly thought things through. Having Elder Yuan in Beijing was indeed beneficial to both Song Qing and Song Ye’s future. Elder Yuan’s connections were undoubtedly extensive. If they needed to get something done, his single word was worth more than running around endlessly.
“You two, it’s enough for you to come and see me when you have time.”
Song Ye went to survey the environment in Beijing. Even though he planned to stay in Tang County, he could still set up a branch office in Beijing. He wasn’t going to limit himself to one place. With the help of his biological sister and grandfather, things were even easier than he’d expected.
Meanwhile, Tang Guo was pulled into the study by Elder Yuan to see his collection of treasures. Each one would be a priceless artifact in the future.
When Elder Yuan discovered that Tang Guo could actually hold a conversation with him on these topics, he liked her even more and felt that his grandson had truly found a treasure.
