There was no next part of the plot, so Tang Guo didn’t dwell on it.
She flipped through the storyline again and found that the village chief’s family was kind and harmonious. She was quite satisfied with this background.
She also found Song Ye interesting. He could go head-to-head with Chen Ying for a lifetime without saying a word.
“Song Ye is the most tolerant man I’ve ever seen.”
Tang Guo sighed, then suddenly felt uncomfortable. Her face stiffened slightly. “Something’s not right. He insisted that nothing happened between him and Chen Ying, so why…?”
[Maybe it’s because the host is just too beautiful?]
Tang Guo frowned, and the system quickly tried to make up for it, [Maybe he was drunk.]
Tang Guo didn’t pursue the matter. If that guy behaved, then all was well. She calculated the time. By now, everyone in the family had gone out to work and earn labor points.
There was one year left until the college entrance examination resumed. Many educated youths had already received the news and were secretly preparing for it. Song Ye was no exception. At the bottom of his trunk, he had hidden exam materials, likely mailed from home.
Tang Guo stretched out her fair little hand and couldn’t help curling her lips. It was obvious she hadn’t done any manual labor.
Her father, Tang Shouguo, doted on her obsessively and couldn’t bear for her to suffer. Her mother treated her like a precious cotton-padded jacket and feared she’d be wronged.
Her two older brothers were also absolute sister-obsessed maniacs, unwilling to let her go outside to face the sun or rain.
So, when it came to Tang Guo’s share of chores, everyone in the family took on a bit of it themselves. There was no fear of not being able to support her.
Even in this era, this body of hers had never known hardship.
The only thing that made the whole family unhappy was that the daughter they held in the palm of their hands, their precious little sister, had been taken by a pretty boy.
On the morning of the wedding, Song Ye was driven out to the fields by the whole family, leaving her to sleep in alone.
Tang Guo went into the kitchen and, sure enough, found steamed buns in the pot. No doubt they were left for her. There were four in total, and she ate two.
The steamed buns from this era really did taste great. Even with all the delicacies she had in her stash, none could match this flavor for the time being.
After eating, she sent a message to the group, letting them know she had arrived at a new plane so they wouldn’t worry, then exited the group chat and curled back up in bed.
Song Ye had been pulled out early by his in-laws to work and hadn’t stopped the whole time. Fortunately, he had been in the countryside long enough to avoid passing out from exhaustion.
Even now, he still felt like he was dreaming. He had fallen into the water with the village flower, ruining the young girl’s innocence, and now they were married. Last night, he got drunk. How did he end up losing control and sleeping with her? Originally, he had no intentions toward this girl. The marriage was more or less forced.
It was just that last night, when he met those eyes, it felt like he wasn’t himself in that moment, as if he had become someone else.
When he got up early in the morning, he felt like he wasn’t himself, yet also was. His mind was a bit muddled.
Song Ye wiped the sweat from his forehead, feeling like he had committed a great sin.
In fact, he had fallen into the water first. The village girl just happened to pass by. Seeing him, a flailing landlubber, she jumped in without hesitation and pulled him to shore. Technically, she’d saved his life.
Song Ye felt guilty toward her, but now it seemed like nothing he did could make it right.
He thought of another person, Chen Ying.
Not because he had feelings for her, but because she had always seemed strange.
Seeing the courtyard in front of him, and remembering that there was still a sleepy, little girl in the house, Song Ye looked at his dirty hands, quickly set aside the tools, and washed up.
He also felt that there was still the stench of manure on his body. If he walked in like this, he’d stink up the young girl inside.
So he turned around, took a cold shower, and changed into clean clothes. Even though he was starving, he preferred to be clean.
When he reached the door, he thought about his own behavior and couldn’t help but laugh.
