Transmigrated Canon Fodder, Please Calm Down! Chapter 470

“Imperial Concubine, I’ve come to ask you to release someone. Chunxue has been by the Empress’s side since childhood, let her go back.

Xuanyuan Mo told An Ningxiang that he was here to settle accounts with the Imperial Concubine, but in reality, he had already received a message from his elder brother on the way.

The content of the letter was: “You dare try to touch my woman?”

That one sentence felt like a bucket of cold water poured over Xuanyuan Mo’s head. Of course, his brother had warned him more than once that the Imperial Concubine was, in truth, his sister-in-law.

It was impossible to settle accounts. He could only switch his approach to retrieving Chunxue.

But that line in the message continued to linger in his mind, refusing to leave. It made him uncomfortable, extremely uncomfortable. Yet, what could he do? The reality was that his relationship with the Imperial Concubine was nothing more than a nominal one.

And that relationship, ironically, was something he himself had arranged.

He dreaded revealing the truth to her. It was a deep, instinctual fear, one he unconsciously avoided confronting.

“Is Your Majesty here to take someone away?” Tang Guo smiled faintly and lowered her head. “I thought you came to hold me accountable.”

Xuanyuan Mo chose to ignore the fact that she no longer called him Ah Mo but instead addressed him distantly as Your Majesty. For a moment, he thought of An Ningxiang, fragile and pitiful, and of the fact that she carried his only heir. He had to grant her this small request.

“The Imperial Concubine has already vented her anger. May I take Chunxue now?”

“The whole world belongs to Your Majesty. If you want something, you can just take it. Why ask for my permission?”

Xuanyuan Mo simply assumed she was upset, so he did not argue further. Instead, he felt a subtle joy in his heart that she was angry about the empress’ conferment. Could it be that the Imperial Concubine cared about him? Was that why she was upset over the matter of conferring the title of Empress?

Glancing at Tang Guo, who no longer gave him the same intense attention as before, Xuanyuan Mo felt a strange discomfort in his chest. But then he thought that her anger was a reflection of her feelings for him. That realization brought him joy.

“I’ll take her away now,” Xuanyuan Mo said, his voice softening. “If the Imperial Concubine desires anything, I’ll have it sent to you later.”

Tang Guo raised her head at this, her lips curling into a faint smile. “I like gold and silver. If Your Majesty truly feels apologetic, why not send me more money?”

“Since the Empress proposed reducing palace expenditures last time, I’ve gone from changing outfits three times a day to just once. Many of my belongings have even been sold off.” Leaning lazily on one hand, Tang Guo sighed. “I’ve lived a life of luxury for so long that these frugal days feel unbearably hard to adjust to.”

Xuanyuan Mo glanced around the room. It was true, many of the once lavish furnishings were gone.

The Empress’s decree to cut back on palace expenses had affected all the consorts. Their food and clothing had all taken a noticeable decline in quality.

“Very well. I’ll send some to you shortly. Don’t let yourself suffer.”

Tang Guo’s smile widened. “Thank you for Your Majesty’s generosity. Rest assured, I won’t let myself suffer.” After a pause, she added, “By the way, please remind the Empress of something for me. It was Your Majesty who granted permission back then. I don’t have to bow to anyone, no matter who they are, not even you.”

“Of course,” Xuanyuan Mo replied, suddenly remembering the decree he’d issued. He now understood why Tang Guo had punished Chunxue. His opinion of Chunxue soured slightly, this was something every woman in the palace should already know.

He would never go back on his word. Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t.

Would his elder brother ever allow Tang Guo to bow to the Empress?

“Then, Your Majesty, you may take Chunxue now. I hope you’ll explain things clearly to the Empress, so this sort of problem doesn’t arise again.”

Xuanyuan Mo met eyes that were slightly different from usual, and his heart grew uneasy. Instinctively, he chose to ignore it and hurriedly left, taking Chunxue, whose face was swollen.

Chunxue thought Xuanyuan Mo would punish the Imperial Noble Consort, but to her frustration, he only came to take her away.
