“Don’t believe me?” Tang Guo propped up her chin with one hand. “All vegetables in the Sunset Empire are grown this way. Want to come with me and observe?”
Everyone felt a stir in their hearts. Tang Guo met their request and took them to the vegetable fields. When they saw the planting methods with their own eyes, their expressions became indescribable.
They never expected that the land of the Sunset Empire, just like before the apocalypse, had not been contaminated, resulting in an extremely high survival rate for the seeds.
“Now, you can take out your gems to trade for our vegetables and fruits.”
Tang Guo couldn’t help but lean on Shi Cheng’s shoulder, whispering, “Ah Cheng, I’ll leave the trading to you. Gems aren’t particularly meaningful to them, but our vegetables and fruits are precious.”
“I won’t let my majesty suffer a loss.”
The two showed their affection unreservedly, causing representatives from various countries to feel an urge to leave.
During the trade, they realized the people of the Sunset Empire were ruthless. They demanded numerous gems for just a small amount of vegetables and fruits. Yet, they had no choice but to trade, and they felt bitter.
Fortunately, later on, Her Majesty the Queen was willing to make another deal with them, which was to sell them soil.
Soil that hadn’t been contaminated by the apocalypse was sold not by the truckload, but by the catty, at a price of gold per catty.
Hearing the price, many were dumbfounded. This was the literal definition of “worth its weight in gold.” But what could they do?
Buy!
Even if it was more expensive than gold, they had to buy it.
Not only did they have to buy it, but they also had to buy it by the truckload. At least this clean soil could be used for many experiments, potentially discovering a way to restore contaminated soil.
Yan Yi was absent-minded throughout the whole process. When representatives from all countries were preparing to leave, he chose to meet Her Majesty the Queen alone.
Tang Guo wasn’t surprised and granted his request.
With an excited heart, Yan Yi stepped into the inner hall and saw the two leaning against each other. His eyes stung.
“Are you Xiao Guo?”
He finally couldn’t hold back and asked. He had been restraining himself these past few days, not daring to think that the high and mighty woman before him was the person he had once abandoned.
Whenever he thought of the past, his heart ached, as if being cut by a thousand knives.
Tang Guo smiled without denying it. “Long time no see.”
Yan Yi’s heart sank. He couldn’t help but take two steps back, pain flashing in his eyes as he said with difficulty, “I’m sorry.”
“I already know.” He raised his head and looked at her intently. “Xiao Guo, I’m sorry. I know the truth now. I’ve driven Yan Nian away. I didn’t want to kill her because I didn’t want her to die so easily. I also know her background, I…”
“Does it matter?”
Does it matter?
Yan Yi rubbed his face. “I…”
“What’s happened can’t be changed by a simple ‘sorry’,” Tang Guo said casually. “Do you have anything else?”
“Xiao Guo, I…” He looked at Shi Cheng beside her, then thought of her current status, his eyes dimmed. “Whatever compensation you want, as long as I can do it, I will. Even if you want my life, or the Sunshine Empire.”
He could offer it all, with both hands.
Tang Guo raised an eyebrow. “I already rule a nation. What compensation do I need? You wish. Seeing that my Sunset Empire is thriving, you want to pass the mess of the Sunshine Empire to me? I won’t be fooled. As for your life, I couldn’t care less. If I satisfy you, you might even feel relieved and lessen your guilt.”
