He was extremely proud, firmly believing that no matter who he had a child with in the future, that child would definitely be just as outstanding as Qin Xiaobao. It could only be said that Qin Fen’s confidence was truly boundless.
Not looking at Song Miao anymore, Qin Fen suddenly slung an arm over Jiang Chan’s shoulder. “Xiao Huihui, let’s go play basketball. I’m going to wipe you out on the court.”
He was clearly seeking revenge. Since he could not compete academically after being called out by the physics teacher, he would dominate on the court instead.
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became.
Jiang Chan lifted her gaze and immediately saw the undisguised anticipation in his expression.
She could read him too easily.
“Sure. Whether you can beat me is another matter.”
She spoke with complete confidence. She had played basketball with the boys in class many times. In a key academic class, most students focused on studying. Few had strong physical stamina.
Jiang Chan exercised regularly. On the court, she usually left the boys panting and complaining. Jiang Yuhui’s body had been trained to an excellent condition under her regimen.
She gave Qin Fen a once over. With that pale, delicate frame, would he collapse after just a few laps?
Sure enough, after a few rounds on the court, Qin Fen was bent over, hands on his knees, gasping for air. Jiang Chan stood nearby, casually spinning the basketball on her fingertip, barely out of breath.
“Are you even human? How are you this good? You did that on purpose to embarrass me.”
He had assumed a top student would be a frail bookworm. He had always been athletic growing up. Dealing with Jiang Chan should have been easy.
Reality delivered a harsh slap.
Compared to Jiang Chan, calm and steady, he looked like the sedentary scholar.
Jiang Chan tossed the ball to a nearby boy and sat down at the edge of the court. “Who told you to have ulterior motives in the first place?”
Qin Fen ran a hand through his hair. Knowing his thoughts had been exposed, he did not get angry. He simply lay down beside her in a starfish position.
“Why do I feel like I’m inferior in every way compared to you?”
Academically, he could not catch up even if he tried desperately. On the court, he had been dragged around for several laps and had not even touched the ball.
Jiang Chan curved her lips. “You’re all brawn and no brains, except the brawn isn’t impressive either.”
Qin Fen looked as if he had taken critical damage. “Xiao Huihui, keep talking like that and you’ll lose me.”
She ignored him and checked the time. Ten minutes until class ended. There was no evening study session tonight. She planned to go home early to practice more problems.
She stood and headed toward the bike shed.
After a few steps, she realized Qin Fen was trailing behind like sticky candy. “I’m going home. Why are you following me?”
Having recovered, Qin Fen grinned mischievously, hands in his pockets. “What a coincidence. I’m going home too. We’re on the same route. Give me a ride?”
“What do you mean?”
“Still don’t get it? I liked your neighborhood. I’ve decided to move there. That makes us neighbors now.”
Jiang Chan pointed at him. “Impressive. You’ve only been here a short time and you already secured a place?”
Familiar with the routine now, Qin Fen curled his long legs and perched on the back seat again once she pushed out the scooter.
Jiang Chan was well known as the top student. Even the security guard recognized her.
She sped off, dragging Qin Fen along, then stopped to buy him his own scooter. It made no sense for him to keep riding hers.
Ten minutes later, Qin Fen pushed out a brand new electric scooter.
When they reached the neighborhood, they ran into Jiang’s parents returning home. Jiang’s father rolled down the window. “Second son, your classmate?”
Before Jiang Chan could speak, Qin Fen chimed in smoothly, “Hello, Uncle. I’m Xiao Huihui’s deskmate. I just transferred today. My name is Qin Fen.”
When Qin Fen wanted to charm someone, few could resist.
Jiang’s mother immediately took a liking to him. Sweet mouthed and attentive, he was different from her two sons.
The eldest was steady but not expressive. The younger had always been quiet and introverted. She had rarely seen such lively energy. Her impression of Qin Fen soared.
After chatting for a bit and learning he lived alone in the same neighborhood, Jiang’s mother’s maternal instincts overflowed. She insisted he come over for dinner that night.
Since he was her son’s friend and living alone at such a young age, how could she not look after him?
Jiang Chan listened in silence, speechless. How did her mother see him as some poor, neglected child? He was a wealthy second generation from the capital.
But seeing Qin Fen skillfully playing the obedient, polite guest while Jiang’s mother laughed happily, Jiang Chan let it be. If it made her mother happy, so be it.
After that first dinner, Qin Fen came every day.
The housekeeper even prepared his portion at breakfast.
He had completely won over the entire Jiang household. Jiang’s mother almost wished he were her own son.
Watching Qin Fen frown over homework, Jiang Chan curved her lips. At least he was trying. There was hope.
Spending time with her, Qin Fen gradually changed.
He realized he could not keep wasting his second chance. Naturally, he fixed his sights on Jiang Chan. The top student made a ready made tutor.
Jiang Chan did not mind. Seeing someone work hard made her happy. After class tutoring was no trouble. She intended to raise Qin Fen’s grades.
Now the two were nearly inseparable. After all, Qin Fen lived next door.
They ran together in the morning, ate breakfast together, went to school together, and returned home together.
If Jiang Chan attended competition classes, Qin Fen would stay in the classroom solving problems and wait for her afterward.
Some people could not stand each other. Others felt an instant connection.
Although they had known each other only a short time, Jiang Chan found Qin Fen decent and loyal to friends. So far, she had not found anything about him that repelled her.
His foundation was simply too weak. Even with her tutoring, it would take time for him to catch up.
