The Supporting Female Character Refuses to be Cannon Fodder Chapter 162

These competition books were far more detailed than the ones Jiang Chan had access to in modern times. It was not that modern teachers withheld anything. Rather, no one had placed much hope in her back then, so they had only given her materials suitable for her current level.

As things progressed, the difficulty would naturally increase, and given Jiang Chan’s academic standing at the time, she would not have had access to the later material anyway. Now, looking at this complete set of competition books, Jiang Chan felt her fighting spirit surge.

School was a place where nothing remained private for long. Within two days, news that Jiang Chan had been personally selected by the physics teacher for the physics competition spread throughout the first year. At the same time, the fact that she was also preparing biology competition books became common knowledge.

Different people had different opinions.

Some thought Jiang Chan was overestimating herself. With her entrance ranking only in the middle, how could she even think about joining competitions? She should just focus on the college entrance examination instead.

After all, even those ranked at the top of the year were not participating. What right did Jiang Yuhui have to be personally chosen by a teacher?

More people were simply waiting to see her fail. Those who pursued competitions usually aimed for direct university recommendation, but was that so easy? Many ended up losing more than they gained.

However, when the results of the first monthly exam came out, everyone waiting to mock her fell silent. Those nearly perfect scores shone brightly, leaving others speechless.

Was there any room left for the rest of them? How did she even achieve such high marks?

After the monthly exam, Jiang Chan became famous in one battle. The teachers all treated her warmly, and the strange looks from classmates diminished considerably. No wonder she had been personally selected. With those scores, if she did not participate, who would?

After the exam, each subject’s competition classes began selecting students. Jiang Chan was chosen without question. Teachers from the mathematics and chemistry classes even came to ask if she wanted to join.

After considering it, Jiang Chan only requested the book lists. Mathematics and chemistry could wait until next year. This year she would focus mainly on biology, physics, and the original owner’s robotics competition.

In the restroom, Song Miao stared at her own pale reflection in the mirror. Why was everything different from her memories? The previous Jiang Yuhui had good grades, but not to such an overwhelming degree.

Where had things gone wrong? Song Miao felt lost.

A roommate knocked on the door outside. “Song Miao, are you done yet? How long have you been in there? I need to shower.”

Song Miao bit her lip, inwardly annoyed, though her tone remained gentle. “I’m done. Just a moment.”

The girl outside curled her lips. For some reason, while others found Song Miao easy to get along with, she only felt that Song Miao was fake. Especially when she smiled, her eyes never seemed to smile along with her.

After joining the physics and biology competitions, Jiang Chan became even busier. She was rarely seen in class, disappearing to the office as soon as lessons ended. This left Song Miao frustrated, unable to find an opportunity to approach her.

It did not matter. There was plenty of time ahead. Song Miao clenched her fists. She refused to believe she would not find an opportunity.

The last class of the afternoon was physical education. After it ended, day students like Jiang Chan could leave directly. After the usual two laps, students dispersed for free activities.

When Jiang Chan noticed a girl ahead of her, she suddenly stopped. If there was one advantage to being male, it was not having to deal with menstruation.

In a few quick steps, she removed her school uniform jacket and draped it over the girl. “Borrow this for now. Return it to me tomorrow.”

Without waiting for the girl to respond, Jiang Chan ran off to join her classmates on the court.

In the distance, Song Miao only saw Jiang Chan talking to the girl, her gaze turning cold as she stared at her.

Wu You had been distracted all day. Her lower abdomen ached faintly, and she had not brought any sanitary pads. Throughout the day, she had prayed that her period would not start.

Yet after just two laps in PE class, she sensed something was wrong. It was autumn, and everyone had warmed up from running. Hardly anyone had brought a jacket.

Just as she felt embarrassed and anxious, a school jacket was handed to her. It was Jiang Yuhui, the aloof flower of their class. After leaving those words, he walked away.

Holding Jiang Yuhui’s jacket, Wu You nearly burst into tears. What a savior.

She had not expected that the seemingly cold Jiang Yuhui was actually so considerate inside. Wu You tied the jacket around her waist and hurried to ask the PE teacher for leave before rushing back to the dormitory.

Seeing Wu You return, Song Miao followed her. They shared the same dorm room, and it had been Wu You who had urged her outside the bathroom the night before. To be honest, Song Miao and Wu You truly did not get along.

Wu You changed into clean clothes in the dorm. When she looked at Jiang Chan’s jacket, even someone as straightforward as her could not help feeling embarrassed.

What made it worse was that there was already a stain of blood on the jacket. Holding it, Wu You prepared to wash it clean. Suddenly, Song Miao blocked her path, arms crossed. “Is that Jiang Yuhui’s jacket? Give it to me.”

Wu You stepped back, avoiding Song Miao’s reaching hand. “You’re really funny. It’s Jiang Yuhui’s jacket. I should return it myself. Why are you interfering?”

With no outsiders present, Song Miao stopped pretending. She glared at Wu You. “Don’t be ungrateful. You think someone like you can even dream about Jiang Yuhui?”

Wu You replied bluntly, “I don’t have that kind of thought about Jiang Yuhui. Whoever does knows it. What happened? Not pretending anymore? I always thought you were fake. In the end, he still doesn’t care about you, does he?”

Song Miao screamed, “Shut up! Stay away from Jiang Yuhui!”

Wu You refused to back down. “You should save your energy. What kind of person is Jiang Yuhui? Good grades, good family. He’d have to be blind to fall for you. If you’re so capable, go confess to him yourself instead of yelling at me.”

“What nonsense.” Wu You brushed past Song Miao and ignored her. If Song Miao had gone to confess to Jiang Yuhui, Wu You might have respected her. But coming to warn her instead?

Was she the type to be warned? Everyone knew what kind of person the other was. She hated people who played petty tricks. It was disgusting.

If you don’t want me near Jiang Yuhui, then I’ll deliberately get close to him. Let’s see if I don’t make you furious.

Wu You was open and straightforward. Even though she had no such feelings for Jiang Yuhui, she would not tolerate being provoked like this. If she did not push back a little, Song Miao might think she was easy to bully.
