Just as Jing Cheng let out a sigh of relief, he heard Tang Guo say, “Imperial Consort.”
“Yes.” He quickly responded, placing the teacup aside. Hearing that slightly soft and mellow voice, his heart felt as if a cat had scratched it.
He did not look at the Empress’s face. At some point, his attention had become easily drawn to her.
“Help me up.”
Hearing this, Jing Cheng felt a bit complicated inside, but he still stepped forward and helped her up. The Empress smelled very fragrant, truly very fragrant.
It was not that he wanted to think wildly. It was simply a subconscious thought.
The Empress was still somewhat thin. When he supported her, he felt as if he could even touch her bones.
He thought about how she woke before dawn to attend court, and after court, she still had to review memorials. Although she still had some spare time each day, she was ultimately not as idle as the men in the harem.
If something happened somewhere, she would basically have no rest for an entire month.
She was only fifteen years old, still a young girl who had not yet come of age.
As he thought about it, Jing Cheng began to feel some pity for her and could not help but feel that the Empress was somewhat pitiful.
At such a young age, she had to manage such a vast country. It was truly not easy.
It was said that the late emperor had poor health, and the Empress’s elder sister, Tang Nuoyue, had been foolish since birth. The Empress’s birth had represented the future of the entire Xisheng Kingdom.
She had been raised as the heir since childhood, with almost no joyful moments of a normal childhood.
“Has the Imperial Consort finished practicing swordsmanship?”
“Yes.” Jing Cheng quickly replied. He always felt that the Empress’s voice carried a hint of softness.
Of course, he thought it was just his imagination.
“Have you eaten? Practicing swordsmanship consumes a lot of energy. You must eat more.”
Perhaps it was just something she said casually, but Jing Cheng still felt a bit happy. “I haven’t had the chance yet.”
“Head Steward, bring some food. Prepare it according to the Imperial Consort’s taste. Next time, if the Imperial Consort is practicing swordsmanship, have the food ready in advance so he won’t go hungry.” Tang Guo waved her hand, issuing a series of instructions, which made Jing Cheng feel somewhat complicated inside.
The Empress was being too considerate toward him.
He had to admit that after entering the palace for so many years, being cared for like this by the Empress made him somewhat happy.
He was originally the Imperial Consort. It would be best if he and the Empress could get along harmoniously.
At present, their relationship did seem quite good.
Of course, he had never expected that the Empress would like him very much.
On the day he became the Imperial Consort, he had already understood that in the future, he might not have a pure love like his parents did.
However, being able to support each other and live in harmony with the Empress was still quite good.
After all, he was a man. His masculine nature had not disappeared just because this was the Xisheng Kingdom.
He would not become desperate just because he could not obtain the Empress’s exclusive love. At most, he would feel a bit disappointed.
Soon, the food was brought over.
Tang Guo rested her chin on her hand and looked at Jing Cheng, who had not yet started eating, smiling at him. “Imperial Consort, eat. You have just finished practicing swordsmanship, this is exactly the time to replenish your energy. In front of me, there is no need to be polite.”
Jing Cheng recalled that last time, he had already revealed his true self in front of the Empress. So he simply stopped pretending.
“Then Jing Cheng won’t stand on ceremony.”
He was indeed a bit hungry. The Empress was so generous and did not mind how much he ate, so his goodwill toward her grew more and more.
He thought that with such an Empress ruling the Xisheng Kingdom, the country would surely become better and better.
Of course, he would also do his utmost to assist the Empress and remain forever loyal to her. He would absolutely never betray her, otherwise he would not be worthy of her kindness.
Thinking of the men in the harem, he felt a bit of pity for the Empress again.
