Feng Yu sat helplessly in front of the computer, staring at the four words on the screen, Game Failed.
Perhaps he truly should have pushed the holographic system earlier and entered the game pod himself to see Xiao Guo.
Feng Yu was the type who acted the moment he decided. That very day, he returned to the company and restarted the holographic game project, which had been stalled for nearly a year.
Back then, one of his decisions had caused the Feng Corporation significant losses. But gaming was only one part of the company. The chairman and his wife had assumed something serious had happened to Feng Yu and had not blamed him. No game could ever be more important than their son.
Especially after what had happened to Feng Ming years ago, they would never risk Feng Yu meeting the same fate.
This time, when Feng Yu returned to take charge, the entire company was delighted.
Most of the preparations had already been completed during the previous launch attempt. After restarting, it took one month to re-test the safety of the game pods.
Another two months were spent resolving game integration issues.
After that came promotion and public beta testing. A large number of players volunteered for internal testing, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Half a year later, Feng Corporation’s game pods officially launched nationwide. The world entered the holographic era. Countless games began integrating with Feng’s system, ushering in an entirely new gaming experience. Feng Corporation became the biggest winner.
Everyone celebrated.
Everyone except Feng Yu.
Until one day, the people he had assigned to track Xia Yi called to report that they had found traces of those gemstones at a jewelry store. They had located Xia Yi and were bringing her back.
“Take her to the villa on the mountain,” Feng Yu said coldly. “Don’t tell anyone.”
His gaze darkened, especially when he saw the recent photo of Xia Yi. Pale. Thin. He felt a surge of anger.
How could she?
How could she treat Xiao Guo’s perfect body like this?
This time, he would not let Xia Yi escape again. Xiao Guo’s body would be preserved carefully. No one would be allowed to harm it even slightly.
Not long after, Xia Yi was taken to the mountain villa.
After wrapping up the game project, Feng Yu officially took leave. No one suspected anything. On the same day Xia Yi was brought back, he moved into the villa.
When Xia Yi was captured, terror consumed her. She was afraid of losing this body. She loved having a body. She did not want to become a brainwave again. She did not want to return to a computer, like nothing more than a string of data.
After being locked inside the villa, she tried to find ways to escape. But Feng Yu had prepared thoroughly. She had neither ability nor intelligence. Escape was impossible.
In truth, if she had not taken the bank card and the jewelry, she would not even have been able to survive in the outside world.
When Feng Yu pushed open the bedroom door, he saw Xia Yi curled up in the corner, hugging her knees and trembling.
“Xia Yi, why did you leave without saying a word?”
Feng Yu walked toward her and asked gently, a warm smile on his face. His cold fingers lifted her chin.
“You’ve lost weight.”
Xia Yi felt ice run through her veins. Looking into those gentle eyes, she did not believe he cared about her. She felt only goosebumps crawling over her skin.
“Your face is so pale. These days must have been difficult for you.”
She trembled uncontrollably, unable to understand what Feng Yu intended.
“Xia Yi, this body isn’t yours. You can’t abuse it as you please.”
“For the next month, I want you to eat properly and take good care of it.”
“Restore it to its original condition.”
He released her chin and smiled softly.
“I’ve already developed a method to punish brainwaves without harming the body.”
“You wouldn’t want to experience it, would you?”
